The University of Zimbabwe offers a number of programs aimed at developing critical, sharp and problem-solving oriented thinking. The university offers several undergraduate and postgraduate programs for both local and international students. The programs span between 3 to 5 years depending on the nature and faculty requirements of a particular program. The system used for grading is based on compounded marks for continuous assessment usually between 25% to 30% and in fewer cases 50%, together with the exam mark.
The University of Zimbabwe has ten faculties namely: Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Commerc, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Social Studies, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and College of Health Sciences.

The University of Zimbabwe is a public university in Zimbabwe, Harare. It was opened in 1952 as the University College of Rhodesia and Nyasaland, and was initially subscribed with the University of London. It adopted its present name upon Zimbabwe independence in 1980 from the former, University of Rhodesia.
The University of Zimbabwe (UZ) is a home of academic excellence. Graduates in the fields of Engineering and mathematics hold a reputable performance accreditations on the international map. The university welcomes hundreds of international students every year from many corners of the continent because of its renowned education system.
There are conventional and block-release programs across all the faculties. The university has outstanding library facilities accessible both on campus and online. University of Zimbabwe provides students with convenient, modern and top of the range accommodation facilities both on and off campus. Students on average pay around USD300-USD550 per semester. The university has apartments within a 2 km radius from the lecture rooms. The accommodation includes single, double arrangements.
These housing buildings unquestionably define Zimbabwean architectural standards and modernity. Thus students not only learn but live in style and luxury. Some of the various services available include in the apartment complexes include various dinings cafes, gym, Wi-Fi, laundry and cleaning services, in suite washroom, study area, TV rooms and comfortable bedrooms.
These housing facilities are located in low density residence ,which in addition to the already provided campus facilities has unlimited restaurants, coffee shops, pubs and bars, shopping malls, entertainment houses all within walking distance to meet student demand and need.
On the other hand, off campus accommodation (within range of the university) with similar features is available, to cater for students who opt for conventional residents over their study period. The prices for most off-campus accommodation depends on the specific needs and provisions by the landlords (in most cases the university itself) in specific areas around campus. Costs also include water and electricity bills.
Having mentioned this, freshmen are often encouraged to stay on campus for at least a year as they find their way around and are hence able to find help from university staff at any time.

The University of Zimbabwe values sports as an important aspect human development and has multiple disciplines to which students can subscribe with. There is a seperate department that deals with sport and recreation and intends to build insight on health and social values of sport to students.
The university believes that apart from the fact that sport is recreational and enjoyable, inspiring and thrilling, it also does bring students together and leads to new relationships. In a paraphrase, sport is packed with benefits for whole University community and a valuable sector in the university. Amongst other achievements here are some that the university has accrued over the years includ, Best athletes of all the local Universities, Champions of Zimbabwe University Sports Association (ZUSA) games since 1999 except 2011 and 2014 and Field at least 30% of athletes for CUCSA team.
The Sports Directorate together with the Sports Council drafts the annual sports calendar which is inclusive of various disciplines at the inter-Halls or residences, inter-Faculty and inter-Universities levels. Here are the disciplines that are currently offered by the university, Athletics, Basket Ball, Cricket, Swimming, Chess, Volleyball, Darts, Karate, Lawn Tennis, Rugby, Table Tennis, Body Building, Aerobics, Soccer, Squash and Taekwondo.
The University of Zimbabwe has several modern cafeteria outlets which serve full meals and refreshments throughout the day. These also provide a comfortable and relaxing social environment quite conducive for both breaks meals and dinners.
There are various campus canteens that open on from as early as 0800hrs till late and offer different servings, typically three times a day, breakfast, lunch, and dinner and have a very easy going social scenery allowing students to relax and chat such as Wi-Fi access points.
The dishes served include but are not limited to meat (all sorts), rice, pasta, potatoes, and sadza (Zimbabwe’s local cuisine) and vegetarian meals. On the go quick bites and snacks and cold beverages are also included as well. The dishes here are prepared in a professional manner by well-trained and friendly kitchen staff.
Students residing off-campus can transit to the university though commuting or walking through depending on the distance they are from the university. There are boarding areas designated for students which offer relatively lower charges compared to common transport.
Transport is never a problem before 1200hrs of which afterwards to board the charges hick so to discourage students from travelling during night hours. On special occasions students are provided with free transport by the university particularly on academic duties.
In fewer of cases students living within less pronounced distances ride on cycles to get to campus which is quite convenient in view of cost and time.
Founded in 1890, Salisbury, now referred to as Harare, is Zimbabwe’s vivacious capital and industrial hub. Back then it was originally known as Fort Salisbury, and then simply Salisbury, and is just one of several gateways to the rest of the country.
The majority of travellers staying here are people who pass through rather than spending an extended period of time. Those who do venture out into the town can notice an active and bustling metropolis.
There’s a busy ringing to Harare that generally feels distinctive to urban Africa. Harare has an excellent transport system that spans across Africa, with direct flights from/to Johannesburg, Windhoek, Dar ESalaam, Addis Ababa and capital of Kenya. Emirates additionally operates a flight from ports to capital of Zimbabwe.
Harare is characterised by wide streets lined with jacaranda trees and pavements often crowded with market stalls and vendors selling myriad goods. In addition there is an excellent choice of retailers each in the city and within the additional upscale areas far away from the business district.
