Accommodation

A 1 bedroom Apartment in City Centre in Timor Leste costs about $1 012.50, and an Apartment (1 bedroom) Outside of the city center costs $881.25. Several rental accommodations in Macau come fully furnished with beds, a couch, television, TV stand, dining tables and chairs, coffee table, wardrobe, and washing machine.

Transport

Transport costs in Timor Leste are generally cheap. The prices for local transportation or cab are as follows: One Litre of gasoline costs $1.04, a One-way ticket for local transport costs about $0.25 and a Regular monthly pass costs about $60.00. Timor Leste is well served by both public and private transportation services.

Rental Cars- there are several rental agencies in Timor Leste, mostly local ones. Renting a car gives you convenience on the road. 4x4 vehicles cost around $85-120 per day to rent and motorcycles cost $25-35.

Urban Buses- vividly painted buses provide transport daily on the main routes from Dili to Maliana, Suai, and via Baucau to Viqueque and Lospalos. Scheduled trip times vary depending on the number of stops and road conditions on a particular day.

Most public buses leave early in the morning once they have filled up with passengers. Dili’s bus departure points are located in the following places: Becora for the eastern districts, Taibessi for central and southern districts, and Tasi Tolu for western district buses.

more isolated locations are covered by smaller microlets which are mini-buses, bemos which are vans, and anggunas trucks carrying passengers and luggage at the back and in some cases ojeks which are motorcycle taxis that take pillion passengers.

On Atauro Island they use a tuk-tuk which is an auto-rickshaw, for travel between Beloi and Vila-Maumeta.

Taxis- there are lots of taxis in operation in Dili, but the operation is primarily limited to daylight hours. City fares vary between $2-5 depending on the distance you intend to travel. These can be flagged from the roadside or ask your accommodation to organize. I traveling by yellow taxis, fares need to be negotiated before travel. In contrast, the blue taxis use taxi meters and are available in the evenings and early mornings if rung.

Bills and Utilities:

The prices of Utilities have risen in recent years. Utility prices in Timor Leste are as follows: Basic utilities (Water, heating, garbage, and electricity) costs $125.00, Cable/DSL internet connection (unlimited data and speed of 60Mbps) costs $55.00, and Local one-minute prepaid calls cost $0.10.
