English Language Requirements

The university generally requires an IELTS score of 6.0 for the majority of its programs or some literature-based courses might need a minimum IELTS score of 6.5. The English language requirement can be waived off if the student has secured above-average grades (at least 65%) in the English Language in their high school finals or grade 12 examinations or its equivalent.

Admission Decisions

Successful applicants who have been accepted will receive either a conditional or unconditional letter of offer depending on whether they meet all the requirements or if a few more documents must be provided.

Tuition and Scholarships at De Montfort University

You are probably already thinking of pursuing a degree and you are wondering how much it will cost and how you will pay for it. When you attend university there are two types of costs that you need to think about, they are Tuition Fees and Living or Maintenance Costs.

The Tuition Fee is paid to the university for academic training and all things educational, while maintenance includes rent, feeding, travel, entertainment, books, and so on.

The tuition fees at DMU are divided into three categories, local, EU, and other international students. The tuition breakdown at DMU for the 2020/2021 academic year are as follows;

Please note that the tuition fee does not have to be paid at once, students can spread payments into installments all through an academic year. The university understands that going to university is costly, that is why there is an option to apply for student loans.

There are two types of student loans, there is tuition fee loans and maintenance loans. If you are a UK or EU student then you can apply for tuition fee loans and UK students can also apply for maintenance loans to cover their living expenses.

Students can benefit from the tuition fee loan and receive upwards of £9,250 for an academic year towards their tuition at DMU.

Scholarships for UK and EU students at DMU

  1. DMU Global High Flyers Scholarship: This scheme awards DMU students with a tuition discount of up to £1,000 for merited students under the DMU Global initiative. The program seeks to integrate DMU students with many global opportunities via different travel schemes, events, internships, community, and volunteering work, and socio-cultural exposure in different countries around the globe. There are a few requirements for eligibility, some of which include the UK or EU citizenship and an above-average grade in your studies at DMU.
  2. DMU Scholarships for Sports Achievements: Students who have exceptional abilities or interests can sharpen and train their skills at DMU’s unique sports facilities. Also, well-performing athletes of the university are eligible to receive funding and stipends towards their academics and sporting activities. These funds can come up to £6,000 in tuition support and £2,000 to £4,000 in sports-related support. Exceptional athletes and sportsmen also receive a wide range of external support in both cash and other avenues.
  3. DMU-Stoneygate Scholarships: This scholarship scheme awards top tier students at DMU who are financially disadvantaged. This scholarship is both merit-based and need-based and offers up to £4,000 in tuition support for an academic year. The scheme seeks to erase the financial burdens from the students for them to focus on their studies and reach their maximum potential

Scholarships for International Students

  1. DMU International Scholarship: The university offers scholarships to a set number of international students who apply early as this funding is accessible based on availability. Under this scheme, new students who have been accepted into a study program at DMU, and have paid the initial deposit of at least £4,000 in time, are eligible to receive a £1,500 tuition discount for the academic year.
  2. Equality, Inclusion, and Diversity Scholarship Program for Postgraduates:  This scholarship is accessible to exceptional students who demonstrate enthusiasm towards diversity, equality, and inclusion on a global scale. This grant will permit international students to concentrate on promoting an inviting and comprehensive climate to motivate and excel in various global causes related to fostering a well-balanced environment in different spheres and communities around the world.  Qualified beneficiaries ought to be domiciled outside the UK or EU area and must be affirmed to study at DMU for any full-time postgraduate course for at least one year. An application and acceptance cycle is carried out every year for this scholarship to be awarded, and up to £4,000 is offered in tuition support.

There are two intakes in an academic year; one in September and the other in January. For September intakes, DMU has all undergraduate and postgraduate courses available from the above-listed faculties, and for January intake, DMU only has postgraduate courses in Business, Engineering, and Computing. All engineering programs at DMU are one plus one where the students come into the university and study their engineering courses for one year followed by which there is a one-year paid internship for the student in the UK.

  This internship, however, is optional. All the courses are IIET certified (International Institute for Engineering and Technology). The university also offers an MBA Global which is quite a popular program amongst international students.

The MBA Global is a 16-month program, during which the student will be studying along with executive company projects at different leading companies and establishments in the UK.

DMU also offers a number of courses that are related to Arts and Design, and they also provide a one-year internship along with these programs.

The most common Arts and Design programs at DMU specifically are Architecture, and there are three different sorts of architectural programs in design, sustainable architecture, and the most famous one M.Arch (Masters in Architecture). It is ARIBA and ARB accredited program where students can become certified architects. T

DMU provided campus accommodation for its students with both university-run and private accommodation on campus. There are 13 halls of residence surrounding the campus with a capacity to accommodate more than 3,000 students on campus.

Sports at De Montfort University

More than 3,300 DMU students enjoy an active lifestyle through the many DMU sports initiatives and over 7,300 hours of sports coaching is delivered to DMU students.
