The United Arab Emirates as the name already implies is divided into seven emirates. These emirates are different from provinces or states and act as stand-alone principalities because significantly, an emirate is referred to as an area of land that is led by a dynamic islamic monarch style emir.

The seven emirates include Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ras al-Khaimah, Ajman, Umm al-Quwain and, Fujairah which collectively make up what is known today as the UAE.

The UAE is known worldwide as the major financial hub thanks to its oil and many economic heavyweights that they possess.

The seven emirs of the emirates make up the federal supreme council but there is a common understanding amongst the emirates that the emir of Abu Dhabi would be the president and as so he has been the traditional and constitutional ruler of the UAE since its inception. Also, the emir of Dubai would maintain the seat of the prime minister as per their agreement.

The capital of the UAE is Abu Dhabi, which serves as both the federal and economic capital of the country. The second wealthiest emirate Dubai is the largest and most populous city in the country with more than 4 million people.
