The country has a unique and notable history. Traditionally a nomadic people, Marshallese are descended from several distinct tribes or clans, each speaking a distinct dialect and with its own style of dress. The people are famed for their lavish hospitality, respect for seniors, honesty, and sincere generosity. To this day, a visitor will be offered tea and food before even being allowed to explain why he has visited!

Traditional Marshall Islands culture known as manit orbits around the same family and clan structure which has existed for centuries. Chiefs called iroij supervise the alap or clan heads and workers referred to as rijerbal in each Marshallese clan, known as jowi. The iroij presides over land disputes and usage, the alap supervises all daily events and maintenance, while the rijerbal do the farming, cleaning and construction work. All Marshallese land is handed down through the mother’s ancestoral line in this matrilineal community.

Children’s first birthday celebrations, known as kemem, are among the most crucial. Marshallese family gatherings. Extended family and friends celebrate with tunes and huge feasts. Religion is also an important part of Marshall Islands culture, and most residents have fairly conservative ideas on nudity and alcohol, especially outside of Majuto. These small islands command a disproportionately unique number of fishing and boat building techniques.

Marshallese are people full of compassion and courtesy! This is evidenced by the level of security and peace the country offers. You will likely stay for the entirety of your study period unbothered here! There is no need to contemplate about studying here. The country lives up to its fame!
