Night Life for students In Sweden

Leaving your country to study in Sweden is about more than just the classroom. You’ll meet Swedish students and other international students from all around the world and explore your new study abroad location. Here are a few highlights of what makes student life in Sweden unique.

Student Unions and Nations in Sweden, student unions are present in every university in Sweden, you do not have to join but if you do you will get access to what is usually the focus of social life at Sweden. They will help you meet new people through nightlife events, sporting clubs and arts, and theatre activities.

Student unions at older universities join student unions to form a ‘national’ or ‘nations’ union. Historically students will join the student nation named after the region where they came from in Sweden.

Nowadays, they join whichever student nation they so desire and usually select the one that best matches their interests.

Some nations would be focused on nightlife and exploring the city while others would be focused on sports or the arts or other hobbies. There are culinary unions focused on food and fine dining in Sweden, and movie buffs who go in groups to the cinema to watch the latest movies.

Many universities have pubs and clubs that are nearby the campus, in bigger towns and cities students can choose from an array of bars and clubs. The legal drinking age in Sweden is 18 though, occasional bars and clubs may only admit people over 20 or 23 years of age.

Going out on the weekend is popular in Sweden so some of the popular places might have long queues outside the door. Some nightclubs in Sweden charge an entrance fee, usually ranging from 50 to 150 SEK
