Shopping in South Sudan

Find Programs
(Bachelor's, Master's & PhD)

The country has a wide range of shopping to suit everyone's taste. It’s possible to dine in a fine restaurant or relax after a hard day in one of the many coffee shops and then go on to a theatre or nightclub or watch movies at the local cinemas in the cities after having done your outstanding shopping. RocApply shopping guide in South Sudan for visitors from around the globe includes recommendations on where to find the malls in the country. If clubbing doesn’t take your fancy then a quiet window shopping session may do. The country offers you that chance to see beautiful crafts and arts in the streets!

Special purchases in the country include basketwork, ebony, gold, and silver and assorted handicrafts. Travelers must not buy cheetah skins because the killing of cheetahs is prohibited and they are a protected species under the World Wildlife Act. Almost everything is trucked in from Uganda, hence things are quite expensive. However, as more traders set up shop in the country so supplies are increasing and prices are falling. But still expect most things to cost 30% - 100% more than it would cost in Kampala, the capital of Uganda.

The Customs Market is the main shopping area found in the capital, with fresh fruit, over-priced building materials, and the usual mix of consumer goods. In all places, they’ll accept Sudanese pounds, even if prices are quoted in US dollars - and you can change British pounds and Ugandan shillings at the Kenya Commercial Bank in the towns for rates in line with those in Khartoum. The following are places where you can do your shopping specially selected by RocApply for you;
