International students can find part-time jobs while they study, to earn extra income to cover some of their expenses in the country. Students with a student residence permit can work part-time for 20 hours per week as long as they remain enrolled in a study program in the country.

Part-time jobs are a very effective means of making money to support yourself while you study especially for graduate students, however, you must be well scheduled and be able to manage yourself properly so as not to be overwhelmed.

In Slovakia, there are various establishments across cities where students work, they include restaurants, hotels, supermarkets, bars, clubs, cinema halls, and many more. Although being able to speak the language makes it easier to find part-time employment, many other service jobs require just foreign language skills. Basic knowledge of the language is a great foot in the door.

Start-ups and small scale businesses also look for skilled students who can work as a team and bring their international perspective to their roles. These jobs, however, are in large cities like Bratislava. They offer a great deal of experience and a very rewarding salary.

There are also jobs on campus for international students, universities offer both academic and administrative roles to advanced post-graduate students either as research assistants, teaching assistants or graduate assistants in any of its faculties.

These jobs usually offer scholarships to the student with a monthly stipend for their upkeep. Campus jobs are highly competitive but ensure to speak with your department head as early as possible if you desire to be considered.

International students also take up space in various job roles across Slovakia, as interns in the many foreign organizations and companies looking to hire capable students. These internships are paid and they have become a brilliant way to improve your portfolio and gain job experience even before you graduate.

Many universities have partnerships with industry establishments to help their students gain practical experience in their respective fields even before they finish their education.

Lastly, many foreign students have found new creative means of earning money in the country, like driving e-hailing cabs, food, and grocery delivery services, teaching arts or dance, creating art and keepsakes, fashion and beauty, music, and entertainment and many other interesting ventures.
