Academic Calendar

Full-time education:

The academic year in Russia begins in September (the exact date is September 1), so we need to start reviewing the documents of candidates and their invitation from May 1 to June 15. The deadline is June 15th.

Application Deadlines

You must submit your application to us according to two predetermined deadlines, depending on which semester you are applying for:

The deadline for the fall semester is May 15th.

The deadline for the spring semester is November 15th.

Summer Russian courses;

Courses will start on June 1, June 16, July 1, and July 16.

Application deadline: two months before the start of the program.

General Application Requirements

Before the university invites foreign students, the following requirements and documents must be submitted;

  • International passport and/or travel document
  • Copies of academic certificates and transcripts detailing courses taken, training times, and final grades.
  • All documents received in a foreign language must be notarized and translated into Russian.

Other documents for admission include:

  • Fill out the correct application and send it to the department
  • Copies of academic certificates and transcripts (original documents must be provided upon registration).
  • International passport and visa page
  • Medical/health insurance

Tuition and Scholarships at Voronezh State University

By the number of foreign students and the number of connections with leading foreign universities, VSU is one of the four best Russian universities.

Foreign students have been studying at VSU for over 50 years, and in this period, about 15,000 foreign students, postgraduates, and interns from 126 countries/regions received various degrees at VSU.

Currently, about 1000 foreign students study at VSU. VSU implements educational programs at undergraduate programs and full-time, part-time, and part-time forms of education.

The cost of education at VSU is one of the most affordable in the country, especially for international students. Students enjoy a very high-quality education at a very favorable cost, the university understands that higher education is an important investment in one's future.

The tuition fee for international students from Non-CIS countries ranges from $2,000 to $2,200 per year for bachelor level studies, and the tuition for postgraduate students is averagely $3,000 per year, depending on the program and department.

Education at Voronezh State University is conducted in Russian and English.

Scholarships at VSU

VSU offers scholarships and other types of material support to both local and international students on the basis of ensuring that excellent students who show great academic potential are rewarded with an exceptional education at little to no cost at all.

The university also awards financial assistance and tuition waivers on the need-based conditions of its students.

Scholarships at VSU are divided into:

  • Government scholarships for graduate and doctoral students;
  • Government academic scholarships;
  • State social scholarships;
  • Scholarships of the president of the Russian federation and special state scholarships of the government of the Russian Federation;
  • Personal scholarships ;
  • Government scholarships for students from among citizens who were doing military service;
  • Increased state academic scholarship for students with achievements in educational, research, social, cultural, creative, and sports activities;
  • Increased stipend for needy first and second-year students;
  • Other types of scholarships.

Financial aid to students can be allocated once a semester for certain specific reasons accepted by the university which might include reasons which might include;

  • Orphans or children left without parental care;
  • Recognized in the prescribed manner as invalids of i, ii, iii groups, disabled children (up to 18 years old);
  • Who are disabled, veterans and combatants;
  • Who have lost their only, one or both parents;
  • Having both parents disabled;
  • Single mothers;
  • Families of students with children.
  • Those who have fallen into a difficult financial situation, documented (suffered a robbery, theft, fire, or other natural disasters);
  • Having children, but not having the status of a student family;
  • Student families (without children) ;
  • Non-resident and foreign students with temporary registration;

Social scholarship

Full-time students enrolled in budget-funded places are eligible to receive a state social scholarship, in particular:

  • Students from among orphans and children left without parental care;
  • Students recognized following the established procedure as invalids of i or ii groups, disabled children under the age of 18;
  • Students affected by the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and other radiation accidents according to the submitted documents (persons evacuated from the exclusion zones and resettled from the resettlement zones);

Students who are disabled and combat veterans.

To receive a state social scholarship, students of these categories must apply to the dean's office of the faculty. To apply for a state social scholarship, documents are required:

  • A statement of purpose
  • Certificate of appointment of state social assistance at the place of registration

Voronezh State University is one of the leading classical universities in Russia, whose history is closely related to the Yuryevsk (Dorpat) University, opened in 1802 by the decree of Emperor Alexander I and in 1918 following the decree of the Great State Commission "transported" to the city of Voronezh.

The events of the First World War and the Great Patriotic War - evacuation, destruction of educational buildings, the plundering of books - tested the viability of the university, which managed to preserve and increase its scientific and educational potential in a situation of acute shocks.

Voronezh State University is the largest university in the Black Earth Region, a cultural and research center of Russia, which includes 18  faculties, a branch in Borisoglebsk, 16 research laboratories, 10 educational, research and production centers, the Zonal Scientific Library containing over 3 million storage units.

The educational programs of higher professional education operating at VSU cover 24 large groups of areas and specialties of training: mathematics and mechanics; computer and information sciences; physics and astronomy; chemistry; earth sciences; biological sciences; informatics and computer technology; electronics, radio engineering, and communication systems; photonics, instrumentation, optical and biotechnical systems and technologies; nuclear power and technology; pharmacy; psychological sciences; economics and Management; sociology and social work; jurisprudence; political sciences and regional studies; mass media and information and librarianship; service and tourism; education and pedagogical sciences; linguistics and literary studies; history and archeology; philosophy, ethics and religious studies; art history; cultural studies and socio-cultural projects. 292 doctors of sciences, professors, 43 university scientists have the honorary title "Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation", "Honored Inventor of the Russian Federation", "Honored Geologist of the RF", "Honored Worker of Culture of Russia", etc.

Scientific research at the university is conducted in 28 main scientific areas, among which several areas related to the field of nanosystems, nanomaterials, and nanotechnology.

To date, the university has formed more than 40 scientific and pedagogical teams, which have received recognition both in Russia and abroad. Over 200 research projects are carried out at the university annually.

University scientists actively participate in competitions of Russian and foreign scientific foundations.

On Campus Accomodation at Voronezh State University

VSU provides accommodation on campus for all international students in dorms and hostels. There are 9 dormitories on the main campus in Voronezh.  They have study rooms, cafes, restaurants, toilets, and lounges.

The campus dorms are comfortable and secure, each room has a kitchen and bathroom. Students can choose a hostel where men and women live together, or they can live together. A dedicated student accommodation team will regularly maintain and clean the hostel.

Single, double, or triple rooms are available for international students who intend to stay on campus. The cost of living on campus is separate from tuition fees and is paid for one academic year.

  • Off Campus Accomodation at Voronezh State University

    Many VSU students live in various private houses in Voronezh, where there are apartments and host families scattered throughout the city. For local and foreign students in Voronezh, they are now renting a room with a group of students, which is called "student exchange".

    They evenly distribute the cost of rent, bills, and other payments. Renting a house on the street means that the student must sign a lease with the owner, according to which the student can live in the residence from 6 months to 1 year.

    Most landlords in Belarus require an initial warning deposit, so be sure to check all the details before signing any housing contract.

    Host families are common in Europe. In some cases, some students choose to rent a room in a family room that includes breakfast or dinner, so the opportunity to live with a local family will be very interesting.


    Sports at Voronezh State University

    VSU is one of 9 universities participating in the annual Voronezh Universiade, with 33 teams in 25 sports (more than 700 students in total). In the VSU University Olympic Games, 14 sports are annually held, in which more than 2000 students participate.

    The Department of Physical Education and Physical Education provides an opportunity for students from all faculties to develop sports skills, from amateur athletes to high-level athletes and even world-class athletes.

    Food at Voronezh State University

    The Voronezh State University foodservice incorporates five canteens and four cafeterias on campus for both staff and students. They serve an assortment of local and international dishes much to the excitement of everyone.
