The introduction of group project training (GPE) at the Tomsk State University of the technology of control systems and radio electronics (TUSUR) is an innovative organization of the educational process.

Work on GPO projects begins with the selection of design topics through the search and competitive selection of ideas and proposals. Ideas and proposals can be implemented in the form of creating new high-tech products, technologies, software products, and services that are in demand on the market.

Lecturers, engineering personnel, and research staff of the university, innovatively active students who put forward their proposals, as well as firms, enterprises, and organizations interested in the development and release of new science-intensive products, participate in the competition without restrictions.

The main requirements for the project are the innovative and/or science-intensive nature of the development and the prospects for the commercialization of the project.

To carry out projects at each department, specialized GPO laboratories are organized, in which workplaces for students are equipped, as well as assembly, model, test sites, etc. The laboratories are equipped with computers, measuring, and technological equipment.

Project participants are grouped into creative teams of 5-7 people. Each project is assigned a leader who will help formulate and develop the topic of the project, plan deadlines, and outline individual tasks for each participant.

Students of different courses, different specialties, different departments and faculties, and even different universities of the city can take part in one project. The further trajectory of training for each member of the project group will be associated with the implementation of the project.

The work of the project group is organized as an integral part of the educational process of training specialists, bachelors, masters.

On the example of the development of a real project for the creation of devices, systems or software products focused on their further commercial use, the practical consolidation of knowledge and skills of design, research, and organizational and management activities takes place.

The best projects are submitted for participation in competitions for grants and the continuation of work on the project in a student business incubator with the further prospect of creating your own small enterprise and placing it in a technology-innovative zone.

The project organization of the educational process allows students to independently determine an important goal for themselves, to seek and collectively implement ways to achieve it.

The educational process for students becomes more creative, exciting, and most importantly effective.
