As a student, there are two main options as regards accommodation in Qatar and they include; university housing and private housing. These two options are very viable across different regions in the country. One common thing with any of the options for student housing is that there's usually the need for a caution deposit or upfront payment in many cases.
University accommodation usually costs about QR 3,000 to 5,000 QR per month and it is the cheapest option for students in the country. The dormitories or student apartment complexes are usually shared between students. Most schools have two to four-person dorms and even single-room dormitories.
The dormitories come fully furnished in most universities with amenities like Wifi, TV, laundry, dining halls, mini markets, and even indoor gym and pool. Because the country is quite affluent it reflects in many of its universities.
Modern living, sports, and recreational services are present in every single dormitory for better student experience. Many student houses and campuses have some of the best and newest technologies with the optimum capacity to ensure student safety and security.
Private housing is also available for students who prefer to live outside the school’s campus. These houses are generally more expensive but are very close to the middle of the city and allow easy access to all the amenities in any of the towns. They also have cheaper utility costs and are favorably private compared to dormitories.
Prices for private accommodation range from QR 7,000 to QR 8,000 depending on the city. These houses usually come as a one-bedroom studio flat or two or even three bedroom shared flat with housemates.
The houses come well furnished with all the necessary facilities, because of how modern the country is, it is hard to find old looking or basic type accommodation.
Many of the houses are new or properly maintained, so the quality is worth the price. People find that the average apartment in Qatar has way more facilities than many fancy apartments around the world and for usually the same price or even less.
Utility costs for a month include the internet which usually costs a standard price of 250 QR, laundry services per hour can cost about QR 30 – QR 40 and also as heating, electricity and cooking gas all cost QR 250 per individual.
