Scholarship Opportunities For Students in Puerto Rico

Find Programs
(Bachelor's, Master's & PhD)

The long and short-term academic programs are available in  Puerto Rico across many universities and educational centers. International students and researchers may apply to BA, MA, Ph.D., and postdoctoral research programs in  Puerto Rico.

Furthermore, summer schools and conferences are other excellent academic activities that make  Puerto Rico an attractive destination for scholars and researchers.

Most of the programs also come with fully-funded scholarships and fellowships as well as travel grants and financial aid, thus international students, researchers, and professors can always find a suitable program in  Puerto Rico and apply.

Several scholarships and awards are offered by the government, post-secondary institutions, and other public or private organizations to assist non-local students to finance their education in the country.

Some are available solely for non-local students, and others are awarded on a competitive basis to all students despite nationality or residency status.

Below is an overview of the general scholarship selection and placement process:

  • Scholarships are promoted and advertised through Websites such as RocApply
  • Applications are checked and assessed against basic Selection Criteria in the country of application.
  • Applications and supporting documents of candidates meeting the basic criteria are considered for interview shortlisting by in-country selection committees.
  • Candidates are interviewed.
  • Once a candidate is selected and on the Priority List, the staff works intensively with the candidate and the universities to seek the most appropriate course of study. The priority list is a pool of potential candidates for placement and has more candidates than places available in any one year.
  • Confirmation of the scholarship is given as early as possible, to give the candidate time to apply for a visa and prepare for travel.

When considering candidates:

  • Priority is mostly given to applicants of particular merit taking into account academic ability, need, and development impact, leadership potential, and personal qualities.
  • Preference is given to subjects that offer a high probability of future employment in the countries that we select candidates from and are of direct value to development.

Please note

  • Applications take time so be patient while waiting for an outcome and whether or not your application has been successful.
  • Applications from women and individuals from other particularly disadvantaged groups are encouraged.
  • Eligible applicants are welcome from all religious backgrounds and ethnic groups.
  • A scholarship, in most cases, will cover full tuition fees, maintenance stipends, visa costs, and return airfares.
  • There is no application fee.
  • Submitting an Application Form does not in any way guarantee you an offer of a scholarship award.
