Student Life in Peru

Find Programs
(Bachelor's, Master's & PhD)

Studying abroad is a very special experience especially when you are in Peru where it rolls 24/7. There are many incredible chances for personal growth, making new friendships, leaving your comfort zone, and of course learning a new language. Studying abroad is not only about academics only. It is important to make time to engage with your host communities.

Student life in this nation is likely to vary from a city to another. Some universities have huge student populations and others smaller. In this country, most students live at home, so the campus atmosphere may be very different to what you may be used to.

Several international students choose to room or flat-share with other students, so as to get a better glimpse of different cultures, as well as to enhance their language skills. The cost will differ, but on average you can expect to pay about 800 New Peruvian Soles (PEN) for a room in a flat-share apartment, or 1,000 PEN to rent a basic apartment of your own.

Most universities also offer campus accommodation which they can be arranged for you. Most universities, such as the Ceasar Vallejo University and the Antenor Orrego University, have bustling campuses, whereas others are much smaller meaning you may prefer to live off-campus. Here are some of the activities done outside the classroom in most institutions:

  • Sports and leisure activities. You will get to choose from a list of sports and leisure activities every semester, including rock climbing, football (soccer), zumba, ballroom dancing, tennis, photography, taekwondo, yoga, and drama.
  • Friday night parties are as rampant as they get. These usually involve live music and are known at this time as the jaranazos.
  • Student organizations and societies. You will have a chance to showcase your talent and skills by getting entangled in the International Student Associations, volunteer organizations, charity work, drama groups, and the dance groups, among others.
  • English teaching. During your idle periods, you can utilize an opportunity to become an English Teaching Assistant and help Peruvian students improve their English language skills. This is fun and paying! Why hold up, click right here, and start your application process!
