Some people just like to go sightseeing and explore when they visit new towns and cities while others along with these like to shop and buy local crafts. Vacation shopping is a lot of fun and most people love to go on a shopping spree while on holiday. The Middle East is increasingly becoming a shopping hub across the world with shopping festivals in Palestine and other main cities in the Middle East. The State of Palestine is no exception when it comes to shopping culture!
Shopping in the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) is not the most known of activities in the region. However, foreigners will still be able to find some good options in some of the larger cities. Bethlehem, Ramallah, and Hebron have fascinating shopping opportunities, although all are slightly distinct. If travelers can get in and around safely, Gaza City is home to a fascinating shopping mall. Even though there’s no official currency used in the PNA, most people here use the Israeli shekels or the USD. The main fare is Holy Land souvenirs rather than internationally-popular fashion brands.
Bethlehem
There are several shopping districts in the city of Bethlehem. The Moravian Historic district is generally considered as the premier place for shopping. However, the Southside Arts district and 4 Blocks International District also command a plethora of shops and markets to keep shopaholics intrigued. Art, antiques, jewelry, clothing, and home furnishings are the most popular products within Bethlehem.
Ramallah
The commercial hub of the PNA is Ramallah, and, as such, visitors will be able to enjoy some shopping while in the town. Plaza Shopping Center is a market place that commands the best items in town when it comes to clothing, shoes, and accessories. Unfortunately, in places outside the Plaza Shopping Center, less legit products are common. To mitigate this possibility, it is best to take a local person or tour guide with you.
Hebron
The Old City of Hebron does not contain fancy shopping malls and modern gadgets. Instead, two products make this city popular for shopping. The first is glass and ceramic products, which can be found in the Hebron Glass and Ceramics Factory a plethora of plates, glasses, and ornaments can be found for cheap here. More so, to glass, Hebron is also renowned for its kafiyas. These are well-made checkered scarves that many people believe are among the world’s most beautiful.
Gaza City
Despite the woes of traveling in Gaza City, intrepid travelers can spend a day at the Gaza Mall. This is as close to the western world as travelers are likely to get when visiting the PNA. The mall is situated in the Rimal district of Gaza City and boasts a significant number of stores selling fashion items and food. The Gaza Mall is usually graced with locals, especially during the hot summer months.
