About Lefkosia/Nicosia

Nicosia (or Lefkoșa officially) is a strange and fascinating combination of vibrant street life, in conflict with a divided and rich history. The American University of Cyprus is located in the center of the historic city of Lefkosa.

This region rich in history and culture is located in the northern part of the walled city called the "City of Light" and encompasses the ancient civilizations united in the region.

AUC students will have an unparalleled academic life, with their historical environment and buildings so high that their lives will be full of awe.

Almost all the interesting things are in this walled city. Vibrant modern cafes and bars, many museums, and a series of winding paths, lined with colonial buildings, churches, and mosques, tell a colorful story.

Some of the main cultural and historical attractions include Buyuk Khan, Selimiye Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Derviș Pasha’s House, The Ethnographic Museum, and Kyrenia Gate.

Northern Cyprus is a popular destination, warm and long throughout the year. The coastal area has a Mediterranean climate, with mild and rainy winters and hot and sunny summers.

The temperature in Cyprus drops to an average of 17°C in the middle of winter, and it feels warm in December and January when the sun is shining 6 hours a day.

However, the weather has a downside. In winter, as the weather gets cold, warm jackets and sweaters are recommended.

Northern Cyprus has endless blue skies and long unspoiled beaches, sweeping from the mountains to the sea in the blink of an eye. In addition to the natural scenery,

Cyprus has many fascinating historical sites worth visiting: the ruins of medieval castles, vast archaeological sites, and once-powerful classical cities.

Over the centuries, from the Assyrians to the Egyptians, from the Persians to the Romans, have ruled Cyprus, and everyone has left their own unique mark on different terrains.
