Visa Requirements for Students in Nigeria

Visa requirements for students that want to study in Nigeria are different for students depending on their citizenship. Select you country below, learn about the relevant regulations and find the embassies and consulates in your country!

1.Step: Select your Country

When studying in Nigeria, you will need to acquire a study visa once you are admitted to any university in the country. The Nigerian immigration services issues out what is referred to as the Subject To Regularization (STR) visa that covers a broad number of intentions such as Expatriate employment Missionary and Clergy work, Government Officials, and Research Fellows.

You are encouraged to initiate the visa application process whilst you are still in your home country to avoid any complications.   • Formal application for STR Visa from the Employer / Institution accepting Immigration Responsibility
  • Valid Passport with a minimum of 6 months validity and at least 2 blank pages for visa endorsement
  • 2 passport sized photographs (35/40mm) taken within the last 6 months on white background
  • Duly completed Visa Form IMM22
  • Educational qualifications and Curriculum Vitae
  • Evidence of financial support
  • Letters of Offer of Appointment and Acceptance of Offer
  • Nigeria Immigration Service Visa Payment Receipt and Visa Acknowledgement Receipt

Prospective students can apply online or via post. They need to complete the visa application form IMM22 and print two (2) copies of the completed form. Students are advised to make an online payment and print the payment receipt.

Please note that successful online payment is not the approval of an STR visa. Attach 2 passports sized photographs to completed Visa Form IMM22, along with the other requirements, and submit through any of the following:

  • Via online application
  • Via Post to the Embassy/High Commission/Consulate of Nigeria where the applicant is Resident
  • In-person at designated Visa Application Centre (where applicable) or,
  • In-person at the Embassy/High Commission/Consulate of Nigeria where the applicant is Resident.
