Nightlife in New Zealand

The night time in New Zealand is beautiful and captivating. Foreign students enjoy the general night scene especially in large cities like Auckland and Wellington. The night scene in New Zealand can be described as calm and relaxing with not so much pomp and hype that you can find everywhere. So it is more of bars, cozy clubs and serene dining spaces that transform into a dance party as the night progresses.

The nightlife in a popular city like Auckland attracts a great number of tourists and the coolest crowd in the area. The Britomart precinct bodies some of the favorite spots in the city of boats.

The eclectic views of buildings overlooking the sea and the many boats acting as reflective for the lights on the sea surface.

Start the night off at the Viaduct; a lively hub of restaurants, bars, and a great place to mingle with the locals. Strolling through Te Whero bridge, right up to the Ponsonby by the water shore, the beauty of the night fading is riveting.

The youngest population of kiwis are in Wellington than any other place in the country, so automatically the fun here is usually top-notch. Around Willis, Lambton Quay, and Courtenay Place; is a myriad of hangout locations with plenty aesthetically pleasing buildings.

The weekends are the peak times for getting the most out of the nightlife in the city. However, many people indulge in more light fun hangouts to end the night or to relieve from the day’s activities.

Other cities in the country like Christchurch and smaller suburbs like Queenstown, Dunedin, etc are university areas so there a definitely a young population of local and foreign students with different activities and events organized to help students experience a memorable social life. Craft beer and many local drinks are very popular in these small cities, so please indulge.

Please take note that the legal drinking age in New Zealand is 18 and over. We advise students not yet up to the age to please find non-alcoholic related fun activities as non-legal drinking is punishable in New Zealand.

Also, students who are 18 and over must bear in mind that they are in a foreign land and must have fun reasonably and in the confines of the law, anything else might be punishable by the law.
