Several issues affect student life in New Caledonia, some of them being housing in a foreign place, being able to fit in well, being fit emotionally and physically, tutoring, career, and personal counseling, extra-curricular activities that ensure that each student's academic and personal needs are met.Student life offers a blend of learning opportunities, support services, and extra-curricular activities to promote students’ intellectual growth and personal development.

Accommodation

The university provides accommodation for its students. The student house, CLC, and UNC combine to manage admission for university halls of residence, reception, and surveillance. Housing is usually allocated to students from families with limited resources, and foreigners under certain conditions. All students, however, are eligible to apply for accommodation.  Some of the residence halls include:

Residence 500- this is the large university residence hall that has 540 beds in studios or three-bedroomed apartments.

Seaside residence- this is a residence with 108 individual rooms, toilets, a collective or shared kitchen, and a common room.

Facilities for Students

The University of New Caledonia is equipped with modern facilities designed to meet all student’s needs and bring out the best in them. You can find spacious classrooms, modern library facilities, and laboratories. You can also expect to find facilities such as a football ground, courts, a fitness center to encourage healthy physical activity, lounges and meeting rooms, fully equipped libraries, and a dining hall, to mention but a few.

Sports Facilities- students can expect to find indoor and outdoor sports facilities. These include a football field, a fitness center, various courts, and multi-purpose halls for various activities, to mention but a few.

Transportation- the University of New Caledonia is out of the city center and hence students have to find transport options to get them to campus. The university encourages carpooling, which is one of the best options to reduce costs for the students. Public transportation is also available in the form of the Taneo bus lines. Students can get a pass by simply presenting their proof of enrolment.

Exchange programs- the university conducts some exchange programs with other universities on the French mainland and other neighboring countries. This enables students to learn from other students and at the same time sharpen their skills and also get guidance in terms of their careers.

Scholarships- scholarships are also available to make learning easy for students. Scholarships provide financial assistance to make student life easier in foreign lands. Students can apply for several scholarships which may be need-based, performance-based, sport-based, or financial grants.
