There are plenty of scholarships are available for students studying in Myanmar, either fundeb by the Government, private institutions and corporations, NGOs, banks, or individuals. Below are some of the scholarships available to study in Myanmar.

Fulbright Scholarships

Welcomes Ph.D. applicants from any country to study in any country, Myanmar included. It is open for all disciplines and candidates must be enrolled with a local university or a research institute in Myanamar, and covers an academic year of study.

Eligibility-All nationals from disadvantaged communities but showing excellent academic, and outstanding leadership potential are eligible.

Application requirements: prospective recipients must be enrolled for a degree program at any institution in Myanmar. The students must also be able to prove their English proficiency

Royal Society International Exchange Programme

This is a scholarship offering partial funding offered by the Royal Society for international students. This is a Post-Doctoral scholarship for students pursuing Natural Sciences. This scholarship can be taken at any UK and overseas institutions.

Eligibility: Open to all nationals

Benefits: The scholarship offers Travel allowances and Research expenditure to all beneficiaries.

WMF Empowerment Through Education Scholarships for Developing Country Students

The scholarship covers Bachelor’s Degree studies in any developing country. The Wells Mountain Foundation, through the Empowerment Through Education (ETE) program, provides undergraduate scholarships to nationals from developing countries to study in their home country or a neighboring country. The Foundation believes in the importance of community service and hence all scholarship participants are required to volunteer for a minimum of 100 hours a year.

Institution-Your choice of institution in your own country or in another developing country

Level/Field of study- Bachelor’s Degree in any field of study but applications are encouraged from those interested in pursuing degrees that will best help their local communities including medicine and health sciences, community development, law, education, social work, business, information technology, agriculture and engineering.

Target group- Citizens of developing countries

Benefits- the scholarships range from $300 USD to $3000 USD annually and are provided throughout the undergraduate education of the recipient. The average amount is $1500. Scholarships may be used for tuition and fees, books and materials, and other related costs including rentals and meals etc.

Eligibility- the ideal candidate is a student, male or female, from a country in the developing world, who:

  • Successfully completed a secondary education, with good to excellent grades
  • Is 35 or below
  • Will be studying in his or her country or another developing country in the world
  • Is pursuing his or her first bachelor’s degree
  • Will be enrolled in a program of study that will benefit the community or contribute to the continued growth and advancement of his or her home country
  • Plans to live and work in his or her own country after graduation
  • Has demonstrated commitment to giving back and has volunteered prior to applying
  • Has some other funds available for his or her education, but will not be able to go to pursue his or her tertiary degree without financial assistance

Rotary Foundation Global Scholarship Grants for Development

This is a scholarship targeted at Masters or PhD Degree studies. The Rotary Foundation offers scholarship funding through the Rotary Foundation Global Grants. The scholarships funds graduate-level coursework or research for one to four academic years at nny approved University located in a country where there is a host Rotary club or district, outside of the applicant’s home country

Level/Field of Study- Graduate-level coursework or research in one of Rotary’s six areas of focus which are Peace and conflict prevention/resolution, Disease prevention and treatment, Water and sanitation, Maternal and child health, Basic education and literacy, and Economic and community development.

Target group- Non-Rotarians sponsored by Rotary District or Clubs

Benefits:

  • The minimum budget for a global grant scholarship is $30,000 which can fund the following: Passport/visa, Inoculations, Travel expenses School supplies, Tuition, Room and board,  Household supplies, Language training courses (but not if university admission is contingent on improvement of language skills).
  • Most personal and miscellaneous expenses are not covered by the scholarship
