The cost of living in Mozambıque is relatively lower than in other countries. The cost of living in Maputo Mozambique is ranked at number 159 out of 209 cities in Mercer's cost of living Survey meaning it surprisingly ranks higher than famous large cities like Cape Town and Budapest.

Apart from rentals, the average cost of living in Mozambique with normal consumption for two people is around MZN 658.42. However, the cost of living will vary depending on the individual choices and lifestyle.

Data prices cost about MZN 5700 for unlimited data an MZN 5.12 for Call services. Here are a few pointers on basic goods and services to assist students in their daily living.

Accommodation

Shared accommodation is usually preferred by students as they can split the bill and make it more affordable for them. Students can get rent a shared apartment at a cost of MZN28 606.

However, if the students intend to stay alone they have to fork out around MZN 48 000 for a one-bedroom apartment within the cıty centre or MZN17666.67 for an apartment outsıde the cıty centre. Stayıng outside of the city centre is relatively 

cheaper than staying in the city centre. Some students choose to stay in the city centre, taking into account the cost of transport and other services.

Students have the option of staying on campus. They can apply for on-campus residence at an added cost on fees paid which is far more affordable than private accommodation.

They have access to personal or shared dormitories depending on the institution. They are provided with meals at set times and services like Wi-Fi as well. However, most students opt to stay off-campus as there are no restrictions in terms of menu and time compliance, and there aren't too many rules to adhere to.

Shopping and Groceries

The cost of groceries in Mozambique is quite low and affordable. Students can get their basics and essentials affordably at the various grocery stores in the country. A simple grocery basket containing rice, bread, milk, tomatoes, potatoes, onions, beef, eggs, drinks and cooking oil cost about MZN 1194.06 .

İt is cheaper and more affordable for students to buy ingredients and other provisions and prepare their meals rather than order food or eat out.

Transport

There are several transport modes that Students can use in Mozambique. These include rail, road, water, and air transport. Train services are quite limited in Mozambique but students can simply use taxis which cost about MZN 12 for a one-way ticket in the city centre and about MZN225 for a kilometre tariff.

However, students can opt for a monthly pass of MZN650 which makes it even cheaper. Car rentals are also available in most of the major towns and can be an option for those who want to explore the city on their own.

Buses also operate in major cities and cost depends on the place of travel and distance. If traveling along the coast then you can use ferry service.

Health Insurance

Health insurance varies depending on the cover. Visitors are required to have yellow fever certificates when traveling from infected places. When in Mozambique it is wise to have health insurance that covers evacuation in case of emergencies.

Money

Credit cards are now being increasingly accepted in Mozambique and students can use them to pay for some services. The exchange rate for the US$ to the Mozambican Metical is US$1=MZN70.14.Both the US$ and the South African Rand are accepted in Mozambique.

Bills and Utilities: Basic utilities like water, electricity, heating, and gas cost at about MZN 5062.50 per month, while internet service (60 Mbps or More, Unlimited Data, Cable/ADSL cost MZN 5700 per month while voice calls 1 min. of Prepaid Mobile Tariff Local cost MZN 5.12 per month.
