About Malaysia:

The Island is next to other booming economies in the region Thailand, Indonesia, and Philippines making networking and access to different tourist destinations and work markets easier. There are multiple airlines flying directly to different airports on the Island, the region and beyond. Studying and living in Malaysia offers a beautiful natural scenery i.e. beaches, mountain tops, and serene evergreen forests.

About the city:

The city of Petaling Jaya lies within Selangor and neighboring city Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s capital city, covering an area of 97.2 sq km. The city was founded in 1951, designed to eradicate the problem of overpopulation in the nation’s capital and constructed on a former rubber plantation at the time.

While Kuala Lumpur came under the umbrella of the federal government in 1974, Petaling Jaya still remains under the authority and jurisdiction of Selangor.

Petaling Jaya experienced rapid development towards the end of the 20th century and became an official city in 2006. Today, the city is governed by the Petaling Jaya Council (MBP) and is the largest city in the entire Selangor area with a population of 638,516 from a 2010 census.

Ethnically the largest percentage of the population in the area are Malays, followed by the Chinese and other ethnicities.

Owing to its proximity to Kuala Lumpur, the city has benefitted from the spillover of urbanization and digitalization. Home to a booming retail scene, Petaling Jaya’s economy is largely driven by its service sector which has exceeded expectations.
