Tuition and Scholarships at City University Malaysia

City University Malaysia advises every applicant seeking to study in the institution that there are academic fees and registration costs attached to every program at the university and in that vein, must be fully informed of the average costs of tuition for their studies.

Tuition fees are structured per one academic year and are subject to review seasonally, contingent on the university’s policies. The value for tuition in CityU varies for the program level and the program type.

Students have many scholarships, grants, stipends, and tuition waivers for their period of study at CityU, these funds are both university-enabled and privately provided by many establishments and organizations in Malaysia. Scholarship options presently offered at CityU include;

Other additional support that CityU offers its students includes monthly stipends of RM 150 to RM 500 towards their general upkeep, free dormitory accommodation, free transport services, and free air travel tickets for new students.

Bachelor Funding: This scheme is designed by CityU to reward its high-flying students or students who need financial assistance to complete their undergraduate programs. The scholarship awards nearly RM 25,000 to deserving individuals towards their tuition.

Allegiance Funding: The university rewards all returning graduates for graduate and postgraduate studies with scholarships or additional benefits. Likewise, CityU awards scholarships to family members of current students at the university and is one of the few institutions in Malaysia that offers this.

Diploma Funding: This scheme is designed by CityU to reward its high-flying students or students who need financial assistance to complete their diploma programs. The scholarship awards nearly RM 19,000 to deserving individuals towards their tuition.

Sports Funding: This scheme was designed to reward talented and skillful athletes present in the university. As a way to foster the university’s achievements in many sporting games. Students who actively participate and represent CityU in many local and international competitions are awarded 70% to 100% tuition funding for their period of study. Please note that this is reserved for individuals studying at diploma and degree levels alone.

Pre-U Funding: This scheme is provided by the university for all students taking foundational courses in the university. CityU offers preparatory and advanced-level programs in English for both country nationals and international students from around the globe. This scholarship percentage ranges from 50% to 100% tuition waivers for their course duration.

8 passport photographs taken in a white backdrop measuring 4 cm by 5.5 cm (applicant name and passport number must be written clearly behind) Authenticated copies of all academic certificates and degrees legalized by the Ministry of Education in the country where they were obtained. Document of employment from the applicant’s place of work (for post-grad applicants). Curriculum Vitae (for graduate and post-graduate applicants)
2 copies of a valid international passport or travel document detailing all the visa pages and even the blank pages. All passports must be valid for not less than one year Authenticated copies of academic transcripts detailing the last two years of study (for graduate and post-grad applicants) Application and processing fee stipulated by the university. This fee costs around RM 2,000 and is totally mandated by the university for all foreign students.

Accommodation City University Malaysia

On Campus Accomodation at City University Malaysia

CityU offers premium accommodation services to all its students, there are housing options readily available on campus for both local and international understudies.

Accommodation within the university’s premises is very comfort-oriented and conducive installed with all the amenities and facilities such as Laundry, Internet WiFi, Heating, Study Stations, and Kitchen Areas.

The two housing complexes for students on CityU’s campus are Mentari Court and Damari Court respectively.

Off Campus Accomodation at City University Malaysia

Foreign students can decide to stay in any of the private accommodation around the city. Students can rent a one-bedroom studio or a room in a two-bedroom or three-bedroom apartment. Students who wish to stay off campus can inform us for assistance one month before they embark on their journey to Malaysia.

In collaboration with our housing partners in Malaysia, we provide affordable and tasteful homes tailored to our student’s needs and specific budget.

One common phenomenon in Malaysia for students looking for accommodation is to opt to live with a Malaysian native under the ‘Homestay’ option. With this option, individuals can take up space with local families and pay a small fee for rent. Most homestays offer meals and amenities combined with their rental cost.


Sports at City University Malaysia

Sports are a very major part of student recreational activities on City University Malaysia’s campus, the university promotes a great culture of athleticism, competition, and team-spirit amongst its students. City University Malaysia provides free transportation for students on campus and outside the school’s premises, this includes school buses and vans that move students at a scheduled time to and from the university.

About Petaling Jaya

The city of Petaling Jaya lies within Selangor and neighboring city Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s capital city, covering an area of 97.2 sq km. The city was founded in 1951, designed to eradicate the problem of overpopulation in the nation’s capital and constructed on a former rubber plantation at the time. While Kuala Lumpur came under the umbrella of the federal government in 1974, Petaling Jaya still remains under the authority and jurisdiction of Selangor.

Petaling Jaya experienced rapid development towards the end of the 20th century and became an official city in 2006. Today, the city is governed by the Petaling Jaya Council (MBP) and is the largest city in the entire Selangor area with a population of 638,516 from a 2010 census.

Ethnically the largest percentage of the population in the area are Malays, followed by the Chinese and other ethnicities.

Owing to its proximity to Kuala Lumpur, the city has benefitted from the spillover of urbanization and digitalization. Home to a booming retail scene, Petaling Jaya’s economy is largely driven by its service sector which has exceeded expectations.
