The Adventist Zurcher University was founded in Soamanandrariny-Antoananarivo in 1995 with a single Faculty. It moved the following year to Antsirabe, to finally occupy in 1998, its current site. The University is located on the national road number 7, 35 km from Antsirabe, in a vast property of 200 hectares covered with forest. It bears the name of Jean Zurcher, Swiss philosopher, theologian and educator who greatly contributed to the development of primary and secondary education in Madagascar in the years 1950-60. It receives students without distinction of origin, race or religion.

Antsirabe is the capital city of the Vakinankaratra region, in the central highlands of Madagascar. It's a popular spa town, known for its thermal springs and many colorful rickshaws. The city’s French colonial buildings include the Hôtel des Thermes, with its grand facade. Stalls at the souk-like, outdoor Sabotsy Market sell clothing and local produce. Large Lake Andraikiba is just west of the city.
