Tuition fees and living costs are generally significantly lower in Madagascar than in the rest of the neighborhood, but a little extra funding is still likely to come in handy for many international students. While some are government scholarships, others are offered by individual universities or external organisations, for students at all levels of study. With its competitive institutions, Madagascar offers excellent opportunities for students.

The higher education in Madagascar relies on the older Malagasy higher education system.  The university level is basically comprised of 4-6 years. As the postgraduate level is more research-based and technical by which you are able to achieve your doctorate level thus given priority in scholarship programs. The funding is mostly facilitated by the Ministry of Education for college education in Madagascar and to study abroad. Malagasy institutions also offer various scholarships for its students to study abroad in various institutions and universities.

  • The Gilman Scholarship Program aims to support students who have been traditionally underrepresented in study abroad, including but not limited to, students with high financial need, community college students, students in under-represented fields such as the sciences and engineering, students with diverse ethnic backgrounds, and students.
  • The American School of Antananarivo offers its Tertiary Education funding for students each school year. This funding opportunity is available for those Madagascar talented students who want to study in College or University at the school.
  • David L. Boren Scholarships from the National Security Education Program are also extremely visible and competitive. Applicants must be undergraduate students who are studying an advanced language and culture studies or a discipline such as business, law, the sciences or agriculture precisely. Applicants should identify how their study abroad program, as well as their future academic and career goals, will contribute to Madagascar. Scholarships are awarded for up to a year of study abroad.
