A student’s life in Kenya is not particularly different from other students’ all over the world. Despite that, this is where “life starts” and every moment is essential. Kenya is a fun and exciting country with many careers and personal opportunities for foreign students learning in the country’s institutions of higher learning.

It comes as no doubt that the campus life around these facilities is very vibrant. The mix between foreign and local students (others coming from across the country with different tribal backgrounds, to attend that particular university) creates a hybrid culture that can only be unique to the institution and its borders.

As a student that is studying in Kenya, you are bound to experience a youth culture in most universities in the country. The Kenyan census points that a huge number of Kenyans are below the age of 30 years, meaning that Kenya is a youthful nation. It comes as no surprise that the universities are budding with innovation and vibrancy. Be prepared to have fun as you study.

Student life generally revolves around studying and engaging in other extra-curricular activities. Lessons usually start at 8 am and can wind up as late as 6 pm with periodical breaks in between.

When studying in Kenya be prepared to be involved in university cultural events. Several activities take places such as festivals and sporting events, students can join in and be part of this fun experience.

Around Kenyan universities there is an aura of entrepreneurship, we would advise you to also have a small business idea to pursue as you study.

It is more like a university culture to have one, so do not miss the opportunity to also be involved in making a few Kenyan Shillings as you study.

Students living on campus live in hostels usually located on the university’s premises. The rooms are usually shared between 2 people, with desks, beds, and a wardrobe.

University accommodation also has catering for its on-campus students. First-year students are advised to stay on campus as they find their way around in the first year. There is also a wide variety of restaurants available near the campuses and these cater to off-campus students during the day.

The average meal is approximately going to cost KSH 100-600 ($1-$6). Student life is built around affordability, that is why the transport to and from campus is usually affordable and readily available for students.
