STUDENT LIFE AT RITSUMEIKAN UNIVERSITY
Academics
a) Project-based education
From year one, students become a part of many research and development projects and are also taught modern technologies without adjusting the curriculum on an annual basis. Through learning by doing, students learn new technical innovative knowledge and develop systems tailored to the real world and the global environment. Students learn to work with people from different backgrounds but share a common goal.
b) Active Learning
Classes are typically held in small numbers under a system called “active learning” incorporated into teaching as opposed to conventional formal learning. The students lead the learning by debating with one another on topics that they find polarizing through group discussions. This promotes self-guided research and independent problem-solving. RU students come from a diverse range of backgrounds so they bring different experiences and responses with them. Discussing different cultures and situations amongst each other in itself has an enormously beneficial and unique learning effect.
