Before traveling to Israel, you should know that this is a first-world economy, and costs in total will probably be about what they would be for a trip to Europe or the United States. It’s recommendable to know that upfront and not be unpleasantly shocked when you arrive here.

Generally, as with everywhere, it really depends a lot on your lifestyle and what your preferences are and therefore how much you can spend. The most expensive living item in Israel is the rent, everything else is pretty cheap.

The total cost of living in Israel for one person with average consumption for one month will be USD 1500, rent price included.

Restaurants

Be very smart about your money and you can save up a lot of amounts. For example, when eating out, never order bottled water. Tap water is safer and drinkable here; everyone drinks it freely. No need to waste money on bottled water really.

You should also know that lunch/dinner rates are pretty much the same, so if you want to save up, just avoid the top upscale outlets. You can get a decent mean for USD 15.00.

Purchasing in a grocery store or a market is the ideal way to enjoy a variety of food and healthy groceries. Fresh veggies and fruit are always available at reasonable prices, and you can also find cold cuts, a variety of cheeses, and even ready-made food like smocked chicken that costs much less than in a restaurant.

Transport

Generally speaking, though it is expensive, it is very easy to get around using public transport, without knowing any Hebrew. However, keep in mind that public transport is designed to serve the needs of locals here, not tourists, so you won't find frequent bus service to wherever you intend to go. The transport system here is reliable. You can hire a taxi for about USD 5/ 10kn. However, most institutions have transport for students. You can pay once per semester to access the university cans and buses!

Utility

Utilities are rather expensive in Israel, amounting up to almost USD 200 a month for basic ones like electricity, water, cooling, heating, and garbage services. Internet, however, compared to this and especially compared to other countries, is relatively inexpensive, costing around USD 25 a month.

Health Care

Cost is average for consulting a doctor in a public institution that will cost about USD 100 and for a private doctor can vary between USD 150 to USD 250 depending on the city. There are student medical aids that are accepted by various institutions in the country. It is advised to check with your offer letter on what procedures need to be followed on health insurance Schools and Medical Facilities.

Monthly Budget

Rent is extremely high here, almost as high as in Ireland (which is infamous for enormously expensive rentals). The average price of rent, for an apartment outside of the city center rented by one or two people, is around USD 700 and for one inside the city center around USD 900.

Those interested in simple living should budget between USD 1300 or less monthly. Generally, this budget allows for bus rides and the occasional taxi, big trips to the marketplace, and a few restaurant meals each month.

While you can choose to live in relative luxury, employing full-time housekeepers, commuting by car, enjoying exquisite homes, and consuming imported goods such as lifestyles can easily amount to USD 1600 or more monthly.
