Living expenses in the country changes from city to city or county to county and depends on individual lifestyle choices. There are two kinds of expenses that students will make in the country, they are essential expenses such as accommodation, food, utilities, and transportation, the other type of expenses are the extras such as entertainment, nightlife, adventure, etc.

Food

If you enjoy eating out these would be your approximate costs; Breakfast would cost about €4, Lunch would cost about €7.50, and Dinner will cost you around €12 in any typical restaurant. As it is in many other countries, eating is considerably expensive than cooking at home, so for students in Ireland, the food costs are quite average and around €100 to €120 if you choose to shop for groceries for a month. Alcoholic beverages like beer cost only €1.50 and a bottle of wine start from €9 or even cheaper at specific stores.

Accommodation

Rent prices depend on the different locations by a small margin but homes within the city center are a bit pricier than the ones that are outside of the main city area. A one-bedroom flat in the city center starts from €1,200 and can go up to €1,900 per month depending on the building type and added amenities. Although living in the city center is way more convenient,

it is also pricier so living in many of the accommodation types outside the city center would be an appropriate option if you have budgetary concerns. Renting outside the city center shaves a few hundred Euros because the rent starts from €1,000 and go up to €1,600 per month. Of course, you can find cheaper or more expensive accommodation options in the country but these are just the average prices.

Utilities

The cost of certain utilities such as electricity, water supply, heating, internet and more, range from €85 up to €250 for two months. As a student, the best possible internet that you can get will cost you €60 a month.

Transportation

The country boasts of a very effective and seamless public transport system of buses, trams, trains, and taxis, and cab-hailing services. The buses cost from €2.15 up to €3.50 depending on the route and with the local smart card called ‘Leap’ there are cheaper prices and the tickets start from €1.50 which is a good bargain if you have to use the bus often.

Trains (Darts) are fast, comfortable, and overall a great experience, they are also not very expensive costing about €3.50 to €5.50 depending on the route for interstate travels. Trams are very modern and nice and the same ‘Leap’ smart cards for buses can be used for trams as well.

Leisure Activities

Ireland is very beautiful and modern with a host of leisure activities that caters to a variety of interests. The capital city, Dublin offers over 751 different pubs seeing how beer-culture is very huge in the country.

RocApply Tip: Invest in buying your bicycle or use the local city bike system with a yearly pass of €25 to move from one station to the other. This is a brilliant means to save costs on transportation in the country.
