Student Life in Georgia

Going to a new country is a different experience for different individuals, however, each student can agree that life as a student in Georgia is very exciting. Starting in a new environment comes with its early challenges that quickly fade after a short while. There are obviously some essential details that are key for international students coming to study in any Georgian institution.

RocApply delivers first-hand insight into what life would be studying in Georgia, we reached out to a few understudies currently pursuing one diploma in bachelors or masters levels at different universities in the country. They had very insightful advice for prospective students who wish to come and experience the country.

“ Life as a university student is heavily dependent on which nation the student hails from, but every country has its own representation across Georgia. If you are keen on exploring nature then you can head on to beautiful locations like Lisi lake or the gorgeous Turtle lake. One favorite thing most students like to do here is to take walks around beautiful old cities, interesting also, coffee is highly advised to get you through most of the day, and the fun part is the coffee is very inexpensive in Georgian and sometimes free if you hang with the locals often. Lastly please make the best of your time in Georgia, eat, drink, travel and mingle with the people, you are not just coming here for the degree alone, you will make some of the best memories of your life here.” - Mariam from Albania studying at Ilia State University

“ The country is loved for its friendly climate and picturesque cities. The landscape is magnificent and nothing that you have seen before. Student life here is very active and serious however, we do not forget to unwind and relax in the process. Academic aspects are very favorable and you are taught by some of the best lecturers in your field. Universities also encourage social interactions amongst her students and there are many activities that you can partake in. My only advice is that you soak in as much as you can from the people and culture of Georgia.– Anna from Russia studying at Kutaisi University

“ The country is very welcoming and super cozy. The people and nice and the wine is great. The exciting thing about being a student for me is getting to meet with different individuals from different countries and different works of life. You must try the ‘Khinkali’ which is a local dish of beef or pork dumplings. ” – Shabnam from Saudi Arabia studying at Tbilisi State Medical University.

“ The cities are peaceful and criminal activities are very low, transportation is also very affordable so you are not stuck in one place. Learning the Georgian language is an added advantage so that you can communicate with the people at least and for your own comfort. The educational layout is very concrete and student-friendly. Lecturers and advisors have a personal touch yet they maintain exceptional professionalism. There are student bus cards for every student which allows them discounted rates for any kind of transport service in their cities. International students favor Georgian dishes like Katchapuri, Khinkali, and Lobiani which is my personal favorite.” – Jessica from Nigeria studying at Caucasus University
