As with any other country, many of our students always ask to know how expensive it is to live and study in any of our different study abroad destinations. The cost of living in Georgia is essential to the overall experience as a student pursuing a degree in Georgia. Averagely a student spends at least 2 years pursuing a degree program in Georgia.

Accommodation – this is the biggest component of a student’s living costs, it takes up the bulk of the total cost for every month. To rent a one-bedroom unit with a kitchen and a bathroom in a normal area, one can expect to pay somewhere between $150 to $250 per month.

Rental arrangements in Georgia are contractual and typically for a long term, say 6 months to 1 year. Areas inside the city or areas where tourists frequent, can go up to $300 per month.

Accommodation prices are also contingent on factors such as building type, building facilities, etc.

Utilities such as the internet, electricity, water, gas, heating all will cost approximately ₾100 (Georgian Lari, GEL) or sometimes less.

Public Transportation in Georgia is very good and covers all the areas in any of the cities. The transport system in major cities like Tbilisi, Batumi, and Kutaisi is very effective and accessible. There are buses, metro, trams, and taxis to go anywhere in the city. Metros and buses cost a fixed ₾0.50 to get to anywhere within the city. Taxis cost about ₾3 to ₾10 depending on how short or long the distance is.

Mobile ridesharing apps such as Yandex and Bolt have become a very popular choice around campus and student communities because they are not only generally cheaper sometimes but they also have options to split the fare with other students as well.

Owning a car in Georgia is quite common with many international students because the cost of buying a car is relatively lower when compared to the cost in neighboring countries like Turkey or Russia. A second-hand car can cost a low was $1,500 and the car still has mileage for another 5 years.

Food/Feeding is a very crucial part of life in Georgia, and students find that food prices are very fair and come with a lot of varieties to suit any dietary or personal choices.

Eating out at any restaurant in Georgia is very inexpensive and students can choose to eat out or cook at home. The prices are still not expensive with no major difference between the two.

Individuals spend ₾2 to ₾10 for a single meal at any normal restaurant in the country. Beer, coffee and, water are very cheap commodities in Georgia and they all cost between ₾0.50 to ₾1.0.

Grocery shopping for food items that can last a one-month duration costs approximately ₾70 up to ₾100 or sometimes ₾120 depending on the individual eating or lifestyle habits.
