Universities in French Polynesia for international students

French language proficiency is required when one intends to study at the University of French Polynesia. Students can only be exempted if they are studying courses that are taught in English, namely, English and foreign languages, Polynesian languages, and Economics Management.

The University of French Polynesia

This is a public, French university located in Outumaoro Puna’auia, Tahiti which was established in 1987. As of 2012, the university had 3051 students and 72 administrative staff. The main language of instruction is French. The university was originally the French Pacific University but was later split into two sites, one in French Polynesia, and the other in New Caledonia. The university became autonomous with the 31^st of May 1999 decree.

The university has over the years grown in terms of enrolment and the number of courses on offer. It is a public institution and research institution that offers a unique atmosphere that embodies the territory’s technological, cultural, and scientific development.

The Outumaoro campus covers more than 12 hectares and has several facilities including a doctoral school, classrooms, tutorial rooms, amphitheaters, research laboratories, language laboratories, video rooms, meeting, and computer rooms, a student restaurant and cafeteria, sports hall, a climbing hall, and a dorm with 72 rooms.

You can also expect to find a library fully stocked with more than 45 000 books, and journal subscriptions, videos, DVDs, and online documentation. The university employs 95 teachers including the following:

• 95 faculty members comprising 19 full-time professors and 46 associate professors.
• A faculty with 28 secondary teachers
• 2 temporary research and teaching assistants.
