Chad Primary School Structure

Most children in chad start primary education at the age of 6 in urban areas or the age of 7 in remote areas. Primary education lasts for 6 years, from the age of 6 to 7 years up to the age of 12 or 13 years. Education for all Chadian citizens between the ages of 6 and 14 is free and compulsory, although in practice, parents pay school fees and teachers’ salaries too.

Students will gain automatic promotion at each grade and At the end of primary education, they will sit for a national examination, the Certificat d'Etudes Primaires which determines whether they will be promoted into secondary school, or go to technical or vocational school.

The primary school grades in chad are numbered as follows:

  • 1st level- cours preparatoire 1 (CP1)
  • 2nd level- cours preparatoire 2 (CP2)
  • 3rd level- cours elementaire 1 (CE1)
  • 4th level- cours elementaire 2 (CE2)
  • 5th level: cours moyen 1(CM1)
  • 6th level- cours moyen 2 (CM2)

Curriculum- the Chadian primary school curriculum focuses on a variety of subjects and study areas including reading and writing, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science, Physical Education, Religious Education, to mention but a few.

Wellspring Academy

This is a small day school dedicated to providing quality English-medium education for the children of cross-cultural Christian workers in Chad, offering education to children in grades 1 to 8. The school offers an international curriculum with a blend of various sources. The school year here runs from August to June.

The American International School of N'Djamena (AISN)

It is a non-profit, coeducational, multicultural international school in N'Djamena. It is the only English-speaking school in Chad that offers an accredited American curriculum from Preschool to the 8th grade. The education offered here is specially tailored to enable students to transfer to or continue their education at other International schools abroad. the school year here runs from the end of August to mid-June.

Curriculum: The language of instruction here is English but A dual French program is also offered, which serves the needs of French Speaking students and for students who study French as a Foreign Language separately as well. the school follows an American curriculum that offers mathematics, social studies, science, physical development, the fine arts, and reading to mention but a few.

Facilities: The School offers a variety of facilities including seven classrooms, two administrative offices, outdoor sports facilities including badminton and volleyball courts, a basketball court, a soccer field, and a tetherball set, a playground with two gyms, and a library and a snack bar or recreation room, to mention but a few.
