Offered Programs

Application procedure for programs in English:

Step 1.

The university requires an initial application fee of €75 before the application process begins, this fee is non-refundable and it goes directly towards the students' tuition fee if they receive acceptance into a program at the university. Payment is made completely online and only after the payment has been confirmed before the application process can proceed.

Step 2.

Complete the online application form provided by RocApply.

The form should include details of previous academic qualifications and history. It should also state the applicant's interest in their chosen program of study, how it relates to their future careers, and what they hope to achieve in the near future.

Step 3.

Arrange all supporting documents; after the application form has been received, the student will be sent a letter of confirmation to which they can now forward scanned copies of all their application documents that are specific to their chosen programs. The documents typically requested are;

  • Copy of international passport or ID (all the data information pages must be included).
  • Copy of High school leaving certificate and academic records
  • Copy of Language proficiency results (English or Belgian)

All documents must be sent online via the RocApply platform, this is the only way in which the application can be processed. Every application is forwarded to the relevant departments to ensure that they meet the requirements, and incomplete applications are not considered. Certain programs require further documentation or interviews before an admission decision can be announced.

Step 4.

All students are contacted via email on the admission decisions if they are accepted or not. Some students might be accepted conditionally and further requested to submit new documents before they can be fully admitted into the university.

Step 5.

All foreign students must secure their space in their chosen programs by paying a full one-year tuition fee, and upon receipt of this payment, the student is issued an official letter of admission which can be used to process their visas.

Tuition and Scholarships at Karel de Grote University of Applied Sciences and Arts

KdG is a public university of learning and is considered one of the most affordable universities in Belgium. In promoting its efforts to stand out as an international center of learning, the university has introduced more English-taught programs in bachelor, and master's levels.

KdG is renowned for its very excellent programs, a good number of which are primarily taught in English. There is a stipulated fee for tuition that both local and international students pay every year.

Please note that payment of the complete tuition fee for one academic year is the only confirmation required for securing your place after acceptance.

Consecutive payments after the first year of a bachelor program can be spread into individual semesters or paid in installments.

Similarly, foreign students who opt to take courses in the Dutch language as the majority will pay the stipulated tuition fee for international students studying in a foreign language.

The general tuition fee breakdown for programs in English is as follows;

EU/EEA students        -           €947 per year

Other Nationalities      -           €6,172 per year

EU or EEA states Individuals from countries in the European Union or the European Educational Area which includes all the 28 states that are a part of the union and countries like Iceland, Norway, and Liechtenstein.

Since Belgium is a part of this group, they also pay the same amount in tuition as other EU/EEA students.

The listed fee above only covers academic costs and training, other additional study fees or department payments might apply.

Scholarships:

Unfortunately, KdG does not offer any scholarships or tuition grants to both local and international students at this time.

About Karel de Grote University of Applied Sciences and Arts

Karel de Grote University of Applied Sciences and Arts is the largest university college in Antwerp, with more than 1,200 members of staff and over 13,000 students.

The university is an institution of higher education that offers professional undergraduate and postgraduate courses. KdG currently provides education on 9 campuses located throughout Antwerp and Hoboken. KdG is a rapidly growing university of higher learning and student numbers have increased by 60% since 2006.

Of that number, more and more international students from more than 50 countries globally have come to study at the university.

With this growth, the university continues to expand its infrastructures to accommodate its growing student population, there is a campus building in the south of Antwerp.

Presently KdG has 6 faculties that offer 17 bachelor programs, 2 master programs, and around 8 postgraduate programs. The university also has a solid exchange program scheme with over 4 programs taught yearly in English.

KdG’s History

The Karel de Grote University of Applied Sciences and Arts was established officially in 1995 when 13 Catholic High Schools in Antwerp converged to frame one.

The organizers’ thoughts from the beginning were in a real sense to open an institution with a name. Opting for Karel de Grote; en: Charles the Great (I) a legendary European monarch whom much of the historical strides and the subsequent unification of the continent in languages, socio-economic methods, and even culture, is attributed to.

Founded as an idea, early members of the founding unit did not start major preparations until 1994, and then almost a year later, KdG was opened to the public in a ceremony that took place on the 18th of September 1995.

Antwerp is one of the largest student cities in Belgium, but even much more than that, students share the city with the locals and the campuses are spread throughout the city and surrounding areas.

The old city center undoubtedly has the largest concentration of students, nevertheless, students feel at home in every neighborhood.

Students in Antwerp live in what is called a “Kot” and it typically consists of a single room per occupant with all occupants sharing a bathroom and/or kitchen.

Some students prefer to live in a studio with a private bathroom and kitchen. Most accommodation types are furnished with the most common necessities but we advise that you confirm with the house owner to know what amenities and services would be offered.

A local online student portal “Kotweb” that offers the largest database of student accommodation in Antwerp. Furthermore, it provides objective information for both tenants and landlords.

The general rental costs range from €150 to €400 per month depending on the program. Rental agreements are in writing and signed by the student and the landlord.

About Antwerp

The historic city of Antwerp is built around the River Scheldt and with over 525, 248 inhabitants, it is the second-largest city in Belgium.

Antwerp has a brilliant shopping culture, especially when it comes to fashion, but also great food world-famous Belgian beers, the perfect mix for a city break.

As the first museum in the world, The Plantin-Moretus Museum is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Trying out the exhibits here is allowed and even recommended.

There is a Belgian chocolate factory in Meir Shopping District, and the chocolatier has produced award-winning chocolates for many years. The Rubenshuis is just around the corner and it is a cultural highlight in Antwerp.

Antwerp is especially beautiful in the summer and there are also many cruise ships docking here at the second-largest port in Europe. Het Steen (Stone Castle) is located directly by the water and the oldest building in the city.

From the Museum Aan de Stroom, you can admire the best view of the city, the museum is also an architectural landmark in the city with interactive exhibitions everywhere.
