Foreign students can take advantage of the many scholarship opportunities available in Australia. The government of Australia spends approximately $200 million AUD on student and research funding for international students annually.
Some scholarships are primarily tailored for foreign students and students can be eligible for a full-tuition ride with up to 30,000 AUD in living expenses.
Scholarships offered by the Australian government for foreign students include;
Australia Awards Scholarship: This scholarship is offered to students from over 55 developing nations and this scheme was deployed to help in the eradication of poverty in these developing countries.
Students receive top-notch Australian education and can return to their home country to put their education to good use and better their society. The scholarship covers the student’s full tuition fee, travel costs, medical insurance expenses, establishment costs, and continuous living expenses.
However, students ultimately must sign a compliance contract with the Australian government to keep to the terms of their scholarship, and the student is also required to return home to their country at the end of their program for at least two years.
Destination Australia Scholarship: This program is a much newer scheme designed by the Australian government to provide scholarships for both local and foreign students to study at a higher level in regional Australia.
The funding scheme offers financial aid of up to $15,000 AUD for each student every year. Each year over 1000 scholarships are available to both domestic and international students in any university in the country. The scholarships are open to all students and different levels, from diploma programs up to doctorate programs.
Other funding schemes in Australia for international students include;
Endeavour Postgraduate Scholarship Awards: This award provides full financial assistance for international students to study any postgraduate program at masters or Ph.D. levels in any university in Australia.
The student must complete their programs in either course work or research in any postgraduate program. This award covers the student’s full tuition, return airfare, establishment allowance, medical and travel insurance as well as their livings costs per month.
University of Sydney International Research Scholarships: Usyd offers scholarships to eligible candidates who are studying a postgraduate research degree for both masters and doctorate students in the school. The scholarships cover tuition fees and monthly living stipends for up to three years with a window gate for an extra semester for Ph.D. students alone.
Macquarie University International Scholarships: Commonly referred to as the Vice-chancellors awards, this scholarship scheme offered by the university provides partial funding towards tuition for students who demonstrate exceptional academic performances to study both bachelors and postgraduate levels. The amount offered varies per the student’s program but can be up to $15,000 AUD for an academic session.
