The National University of Science and Technology offers a number of programs aimed at developing critical, sharp and problem-solving oriented thinking. The university offers several undergraduate and postgraduate programs for both local and international students.
The institute focuses on scientific education primarily. The programs span between 3 to 5 years depending on the nature and faculty requirements of a particular program. The system used for grading is based on compounded marks for continuous assessment usually between 25% to 30% and in few cases 50% together with the exam mark.
There are six faculties under NUST, namely, Applied Sciences, Built Environment, Commerce, Communication and Information Science, Industrial Technology and Medicine

The National University of Science and Technology established in 1991, is the second largest public research university in the whole of Zimbabwe. It is located on the A6 highway in Ascot, Bulawayo just outside the CBD.
All the faculties are administered on the main campus except for the Faculty of Medicine is located at Mpilo Hospital. The university commands a number of multiple scientific fields and has well-infrastructured laboratories. Its main library in the city center and offers multiple online resources to students including course material and tests.
NUST is one of the few universities in the country that has parallel programs (evening studies). The institute has multiple sporting disciplines ranging from indoor sports o field sports. The most notable on campus activities are the highly-marvelled Inter-Faculty games and the Vice Chancellor's games. The university has a small facility in the capital.

NUST provides students with modern and top of the range accommodation facilities both on and off campus. Students on average pay around USD300 to USD550 per semester. The university has apartments within a 2 km redius from the lacture rooms. The accommodation includes single, double arrangements.
These housing building unquestionably define Zimbabwean architectural standards and modernity. Thus students not only learn but live in style and luxury. Some of the various services available include in the apartment complexes include various dinings cafes, gym; gaming area; Wi-Fi; laundry and cleaning services; in suite washroom ;study area; tv rooms; comfortable bedrooms; throughout security etc.
These housing facilities are Located in low density residence ,which in addition to the already provided campus facilities has unlimited restaurants, coffee shops, pubs and bars, shopping malls, entertainment houses all within walking distance to meet student demand and need.
On the other hand, off campus accommodation (within range of the university) with similar features is available, with prices depending on the specific need of the student. Costs also include water and electricity bills.
That said, students are often encouraged to stay on campus for at least a year as they find their way around and are hence able to find help from university staff at any time.
In case of assistance to acquire off campus accommodation, NUST does assist it's students however certain TERMS AND CONDITIONS APPLY.
NUST values sports as an important aspect human development and has multiple disciplines to which students can affiliate with. The Student Representative Council (SRC) together with the Sports Department department arrange sports calendar and tournaments for students each semester of the year.
While the university may not be outstanding in scooping national awards it is certainly prominent in its contribution and development of top athletes across the country with particularity to track and field events. It aims at recreation of fundamental health and well-being insight to students through sport to students.
Students enjoy various selection completion from inter—departmental level games to inter-university levels. With numerous prizes staked at these competitions sports is just but part of every student’s diary. The university believes that apart from the fact that sport is recreational and enjoyable, inspiring and thrilling, it also does bring students together and leads to new relationships.
In short, sport is packed with benefits for whole university community and a valuable sector in the university. Here are the disciplines that are currently offered by the university; Athletics, Basket Ball, Cricket, Swimming, Chess, Volleyball, Darts, Karate, Lawn Tennis, Rugby, Table Tennis, Body Building, Aerobics, Soccer, Squash and Taekwondo.
The National University of Science and Technology has several modern cafeteria outlets which serve full meals and refreshments throughout the day. These also provide a comfortable and relaxing social environment quite conducive for both breaks meals and dinners.
There are various campus canteens that open on from as early as 0800hrs till late and offer different servings, typically three times a day, breakfast, lunch, and dinner and have a very easy going social scenery allowing students to relax and chat such as Wi-Fi access points.
The dishes served include but are not limited to meat (all sorts), rice, pasta, potatoes, and sadza (Zimbabwe’s local cuisine) and vegetarian meals. On the go quick bites and snacks and cold beverages are also included as well. The dishes here are prepared in a professional manner by well-trained and friendly kitchen staff.
Students residing off-campus can transit to the university though commuting or walking through depending on the distance they are from the university. There are boarding areas designated for students which offer relatively lower charges compared to common transport.
Transport is never a problem before 1200hrs of which afterwards to board the charges hick so to discourage students from travelling during night hours. On special occasions students are provided with free transport by the university particularly on academic duties.
Lately there is government transport provision that sees to it that students transit with fairly lower prices. In fewer of cases students living within less pronounced distances ride on cycles to get to campus which is quite convenient in view of cost and time.
Bulawayo is deemed as the industrial centre of Zimbabwe and serves as the hub to the country’s rail network with the National Railways of Zimbabwe headquartered there because of its strategic position near Botswana and South Africa. The city is the nearest large city to Hwange National Park, Matobo National Park and Victoria Falls - renowned game reserves and amusement resort areas.
The city is much resourceful with money exchange shops, designer shops, banks, hospitals, MoneyGram, western union, travel agents and many more. There are plenty of traditional and western restaurants in the city as well as Kebab places. Nevertheless, you can also find high-class restaurants which are usually very busy during the summer.
In terms of touristic activities, there are a number of ancient buildings which commands a respectable amount of history and interest. The city has multiple hotels, hostels and betting houses, casinos where tourists usually spend a substantial amount of their time.
