GZU has several scholarships awarded each year to students who meet the requirements. The onus is on the student to apply when these scholarships are advertised. Some of the scholarships are listed below;
Presidential Scholarships
The Zimbabwe government sponsors a scholarship scheme towards both local and broad-based students in Zimbabwe (Presidential Scholarship) . This scholarship seeks to reward high-flying students from different parts of the country and different countries around the world thus encouraging foreign relations in several educational spheres.
The scholarship is open to students in Diploma, Bachelor, Masters and Ph.D. programs currently enrolled at GZU. The scheme covers the student's full or partial tuition fees and provides subsidized accommodation within the city.
International Students
International students can submit their applications for consideration for scholarships, grants, and/or tuition waivers towards their studies at the institution. The University encourages easy academic pursuit without the burden concerning heavy tuition through availing scholarships and funds for broad-based learners who enroll at the university. These scholarships are both government-funded and privately funded by national and international agencies.
Other Funding Opportunities: HigherLife Foundation
Higherlife Foundation is an organization founded in 1996, whose main purpose has been to support orphaned and vulnerable children in Africa through education and material support. Educational support has been provided through the Capernaum Scholarship for orphaned and vulnerable children and the Joshua Nkomo Scholarship for highly gifted children. Other than Education support, the firm also supports beneficiaries with Guardianship and Pastoral Care.

Founded in 1999, Great Zimbabwe University is a philanthropic public tertiary education institute. Officially acclaimed by the Ministry of Education, Zimbabwe, it is a tertiary institution formally allied with the Catholic religion. (GZU) offers courses driving towards esteemed higher education degrees in various fields of expertise.
GZU has a particular entrance scheme based on entrance examinations and students' past academic records and grades.
The admittance percentage range is 60-70% making this Zimbabwean tertiary Centre a relatively selective institution. While the institution grows into a fully-fledged institution of higher learning that will cover a full range of disciplines, it seeks to play a significant role in the restoration and preservation of culture as well as in using culture as the basis upon which to build the future within the context of local and global imperatives.
The University’s curriculum reflects those elements that promote African culture, reinforce the dignity and self-confidence of Africans, and underpin the national unity of Zimbabweans.

Main Campus of Great Zimbabwe University
Situated seven kilometers from the city Centre off the Old Great Zimbabwe Monuments Road, the current Main Campus is the administrative nerve Centre of the University. The main administrative departments and Gary Magadzire School of Agriculture and Natural Sciences are located on this campus.
City Campuses situated in the city of Masvingo, the aptly named City Campuses comprise the Mucheke Campus which houses the Centre for Hospitality, Tourism and Culture, Hebert Chitepo Law School, Jairosi Jiri Centre for Special Needs Education, Kwame Nkrumah Centre for African and Asian Studies, Nehanda Centre for Gender and Cultural Studies and Works and Estates Department.
The Robert Mugabe School of Education and Culture and Julius Nyerere School of Social Sciences, situated in the West View Industrial Area are also part of the City Campuses. Also, part of the City Campuses is the City Library which is centrally located for the convenience of students.
Mashava Campus of Great Zimbabwe University
The Mashava Campus is home to the Simon Muzenda School of Arts, Culture and Heritage Studies, Centre for Culture and Heritage Studies, Munhumutapa School of Commerce and the Bernard Chidzero Graduate Centre for Business.
Located about 45 kilometers from Masvingo City Centre, the Mashava Campus offers superb teaching as well as learning facilities and a unique Student Village that has premier state-of-the-art accommodation facilities.
The Mashava Campus also offers other archetypal amenities such as the Campus Medical Centre, Library and sport and recreational facilities in a scenic and congenial environment suitable for tertiary education studies.

Distances are very short, and you have everything at your disposal that you may need as a student. The university has a number of student accommodation facilities offered on campus, these vary from domes to student residents halls. All accommodation facilities come with standard amenity features, beds, wireless internet, study desks and chairs, bathroom and toilet access, cleaning services, self-laundry facilities, common entertainment rooms. Student hall passages are monitored and are secured to protect students and their valuables.
The university has over 50 student accommodation facilities all located on its premises, these vary from single occupancy to others sharing 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 per room and these also vary in the prices with the more private apartments being fairly expensive and the sharing apartments being relatively more affordable. All this is in a bid to be able to house students within its premises at rates affordable to all.
GZU offers standard accommodation to its learners in the form of apartments. These are furnished with a table, beds, mattresses, chairs, a two-plate electric cooker, a bookshelf, a chest of drawers and a wardrobe. Students are expected to supply their own bed linens, cooking utensils, cutlery, and dishes.
A house deposit to cover accidental breakages or furniture and window panes, the defacing of walls and any other property damage or loss, will be required before a student is granted occupancy of a house. When a student vacates a house any repair and/or replacement costs will be charged to the student’s account and any credit remaining on deposit will be refunded.
All international students are housed on campus and are given preference in apartments of their choice. Seeing that MSU has a growing number and all students may not be housed on campus or may not afford the accommodation expenses there are various accommodation facilities offered in the neighborhoods around the university.
The University has a cafeteria on campus that offers catering and meals, for healthy, nutritious and scrumptious meals. Food services are handled by premium caterers that serve learners on campus with various meal options at different times of the day.
Students have meal tickets that they can use to get food from the cafeteria during breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Interesting facts about Zimbabwean food
The main staple of Zimbabwean cuisine is maize/ corn and is used in a variety of dishes. One of the most popular dishes is Sadza, it is a stiff maize meal that is like a thickened porridge. It can be rolled into a ball and dipped into the meat, sauce, gravy, sour milk, or stewed vegetables.
These are unique dishes that new broad-based may try out as they are highly nutritious. Meat in Zimbabwe is very good, interesting game meat such as impala and crocodile tail is readily available in most cities. Zimbabwean markets also have sumptuous fruits esp papaya and locally grown vegetables.
Masvingo is a city in south-eastern Zimbabwe and the capital of Masvingo Province. The city is close to Great Zimbabwe, the national monument from which the country takes its name.
Masvingo is close to Lake Mutirikwi, its recreational park, the Kyle dam and the Kyle National Reserve where there are many different animal species.
It has beautiful scenery, magnificent architecture, good food, and walkable streets which is very difficult to resist. The city is very safe and the people are warm and courteous, students move around freely and crime is nearly non-existent.
