General admission requirements
When applying to TUT, potential students must pay an application fee of R240 along with their application. This fee is for administration and processing.
Upon receipt of an acceptance letter, the student must pay a confirmation deposit of R500 for reservation of the program and place, of which some will be refunded in case the student fails to register.
An upfront amount of R1500 is payable upon registration but those who have already paid the R500 will only pay the balance of R1000. All fees are to be paid into respective accounts and no cash is handled at the university. Tuition fees vary depending on the course and faculty.
Class Fees for first semester programs, second-semester programs is payable in 3 installments on selected dates, while year programs and research reports or dissertation can be paid in 9 installments.
A 5% discount is granted if the full fee amount is paid early for year programs, first and second semesters.
If 2 or more members of the same family are studying at the university simultaneously, the following discounts are granted:
Applications for discounts should be made to the Student Debtors Department along with certified copies of national ID documents of parents, and students’ birth certificates.

This is a scholarship for Masters degree students by dissertation, for Doctoral Students, and Research. Requirements include:
TUT Sport Bursaries
TUT offers sports scholarships for students who have excelled in their respective sporting disciplines as determined by the Sport and recreation Directorate. To be eligible for the scholarship:
TUT Leadership Bursaries
These are bursaries allocated based on excellent leadership skills and abilities in the community and at the institution. These bursaries will be allocated based on the Student Affairs and Extra-Curricular Development (SAED) approved activities in student Life and Governance, Health and wellness, and accommodation, residence life, and catering.
Eligibility will be based on the previous year’s performance. The student must have completed at least 2-semester courses with an average of 55% on all registered subjects. The student must be studying full-time. The student must be involved in at least 2 or more projects.
External Scholarships
Queen Elizabeth Commonwealth Scholarship- this is a full scholarship for students to study in South Africa. It is open to students from any commonwealth country.
These are Master's scholarships and do not apply to those studying through distance learning. The potential awardees must be enrolled at their choice university on full-time study. They should also have an undergraduate background related to the program they are studying for masters.
Google Africa Ph.D. Fellowship Program
This is a fellowship program that aims to support outstanding students pursuing Ph.D. studies in computer sciences and related areas. Students and professionals are eligible to apply and they must be from African countries. The fellowship criteria are as follows:
Benefits: awardees will receive $10000 per year over 3 years, these funds will be given directly to the enrolling university and will cover stipends and other student activities. The student will be given a mentor who will assist them.

Taxis- taxis are available in Tshwane and can be booked in advance from specific locations. They cannot just be hailed from anywhere in the CBD.
Minibus Taxis – minibus taxi services are available in Tshwane and can be boarded at designated taxi ranks around Tshwane.
