Primary education in Togo is Compulsory and Free for children aged 6 to about 12 years. Children enter primary school at the age of 6 years and spend 6 years at school. To complete primary education, at the end of the 6th grade, students sit for The certificate of         graduation from primary education known as the Certificat d’Etudes du Premier Degre (CEPD) which Provides access to lower secondary school or middle school.

Curriculum- the primary school curriculum in Togo offers a variety of subjects Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, Geography, History, Languages, Physical education, and Arts, to mention but a few. It also focuses on and reading and writing, arithmetic, and the development of problem-solving abilities, especially for the lower grades.

Arc-en-Ciel International  School

This is a multicultural, and bilingual school, an international school offering an educational program from the International Baccalaureate. The school offers education from Kindergarten to secondary school. It is the only school in Africa offering the IB continuum program from kindergarten to high school in both French and English. The school aims to provide a high-quality international education that allows them to develop their full potential

The Primary school campus caters to students from grades 1 to 5, aged 6 to 11 years. The school offers the Primary Years Program offered in both French and English. The program is taught through structured inquiry and is aimed at producing students who have a passion for learning.

curriculum- the PYP curriculum offers subjects such as language, social studies, mathematics, science, arts, and Physical Social, and Personal  Education. students will take 6 Units of Inquiry that enable them to go deeper into subjects and explore the world around them, among other things.

Extracurricular activities- the School aims to create a conducive environment where students can develop their talents and skills in a safe, and encouraging environment.

Prospective Students- parents are advised to complete the application forms and provide the following documents:

  • School reports of the last two years (in French or English)
  • Brief handwritten writing by the student to introduce themselves and describe their interests.
  • A recent passport photo
  • A Photocopy of an official document indicating the date of birth for children up to 5 years of age.

 

American International School of Lome (AISL)

This is a private, non-profit, preparatory day school offering an educational program to students of all nationalities from Nursery (age 2) to Grade 12.  The school is located in Kegue, a suburb north of Lome, Togo.

Curriculum- the curriculum offered here is based on the American system and emphasizes inquiry, problem-solving, and student research. Students take subjects such as math, science, language arts, social studies, French, music, art, Educational Technology, and Physical Education, to mention but a few.

Extracurricular activities and sport- The school offers a vigorous program with activities such as swimming, basketball, soccer, volleyball, and after-school activities including ceramics, painting, chess, taekwondo, beading, dance, and homework help, to mention but a few. Students can choose which sport and activity they want to do and are assisted by qualified and competent staff.

Facilities- the school offers a variety of facilities including ten classrooms, a science lab, an IT Lab, a library,  an art room, a music room,  a French room, a multipurpose room. sports and leisure facilities including, an elementary playground, a soccer field, a running track, a basketball court, a patio, lawns, and student gardens.

 

The British School of Lome

this is an international, coeducational and multicultural British school in Lome, Togo offering a curriculum based on the British National Curriculum. Admission to the school is open to students of different nationalities, ethnicity, and religion and all students have equal access to programs offered at the school. All students are entitled to benefit from a challenging international English language education. It aims to provide a caring and stimulating learning environment that meets the needs of each child

key Stage 1- key stage 1 encompasses grades 1 and 2.subjects are taught through a thematic and creative approach. These include English, Mathematics, Science, English, design and technology, history, geography, art and design, music, and physical education (PE), to mention but a few. The school offers a variety of opportunities that stimulate children’s interests and provide opportunities for them to take initiative in their learning. It prepares them for Key Stage 2 learning.

Key Stage 2- this stage encompasses Years 3 to Year 6.  It builds upon the subjects learned in key stage 1. Subjects offered here are the same as those offered in key stage 1.
