Shopping in the United States of America (USA)

Shopping culture in the US is very intricate and widespread, however as a student, shopping requires buying only the essentials and using your free time wisely.

We will discuss briefly some of the essential key words involved with shopping in the USA

Shopping Malls:

  • Shopping malls are the bane of American culture, they can be found in many big cities and small towns alike. Shopping malls are like meeting points for every city. They are usually very big and have many big retail brands and stores within them. Some of the popular ones include Macy's, JC Penny, Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, Sears, Bloomingdales and a whole lot more. Adults and children alike find many exciting aspects of the mall that caters to their wants.

Supermarket:

  • Supermarkets in the US, just like everywhere else in the world are very useful thanks to the many discounts that they offer. Supermarkets in the US have grocery items and many other items required for daily activities. Some popular supermarket outlets and chains that can be readily found across the US include K-mart, Walmart, Target and many others. Wal-mart is one of the biggest supermarket chains in the world and they are an American based and owned business.

Grocery Store:

  • A typical grocery store is a neighborhood shopping service where people within an area can get all their food and daily necessities within their reach. Grocery stores in the US are widespread and very effective. Some popular grocery store chains in the US include A&P, Krogers, Albertson’s, Safeway, Giant and many more. These stores have grown to become brands and have very affordable food items.

Also, there are smaller shops that carry food items that are not readily found in a typical grocery store. For example international spices and food items such as fruits and food crops from different countries that serve a particular culture and people. These specialty items cater to a foreign demographic and are also quite affordable.

Lastly, students should also look out for ‘Sales’ across any of the shopping options above. Sales are a very huge part of shopping in the US, these special prices make it easy for individuals to save and still enjoy some high-end items. Black Friday is a special day for one of the biggest sales in the whole country and happens on the day after Thanksgiving.
