LifeStyle and Culture in the Czech Republic
The Czech Republic is a landlocked country located in central Europe and home to over 12 UNESCO sites including its capital city Prague. The country has many amazing landscapes and landmarks but what it is most famous for is its beautiful capital city, Prague. The city’s history goes back more than a millennium and it has maintained its dignity over the years, having survived both world wars.
The Czech Republic according to multiple sources has the best beer in the entire world and the Czech people are the world’s heaviest consumers of this alcoholic beverage. The average Czech adult consumes around 160 liters per year, and although this number is high, public drinking or driving under the influence of alcohol is highly punishable.
The Czech people are also very productive in all their endeavors, they take education very seriously as 90% of its citizens have at least completed secondary education which is one of the highest scores for literacy in Europe. The country has also produced a good number of inventors such as Jan Janský who was the first to divide blood types into the 4 types.
The Czech Republic’s medical system is also one of the most revered in the EU, there are more hospital beds per habitant here than anywhere else in Europe.
The Czech people have quite an odd national passion which is ‘mushroom picking’ and according to statistics 70% of all Czech’s go ‘mushrooming’ at least once a year. But mushrooms aren't all they eat, they also consume a lot of sugar cubes mainly because they were invented by a Czech company in the 1840s. One of the country’s biggest exports is the large car manufacturer Škoda Autos and have become a household name across many continents.
Czech people are very funny, with a witty sense of humor that is very contagious at best, they are also great at ice hockey and other winter sports. Their national ice hockey team won an Olympic gold medal in 1998 and has won 6 gold medals at the world championships.
