International students are part of vibrant university life in Tanzanian institutions of learning. This means universities in Tanzania have the highest concentration of diversity found anywhere within the country. For example, the University of Dar es Salaam is home to over 500 international students from 30 different countries around the world. This coupled with quality education and a good on-campus social environment makes student life at the universities favorable for all international students.

There is a student’s union in all university structures across Tanzania. This body is responsible for the students’ political social, academic, and recreational concerns on campus.

For students seeking to create and registering social clubs or joining any, the student union can help you do so. You can join the debate and public speaking club, Rotaract, chess club, and other various student activities.

Most campuses have international standard sporting facilities for students’ use. This is ideal for sports enthusiasts looking at keeping fit or pursuing professional careers in sport.
The students can use the swimming pools, gymnasium, track fields, tennis courts, soccer pitches, and basketball courts at their disposal at any given time.

Sporting competitions are usually organized between universities across the country and it is open for all students to participate. University students, through their Student Sports Council, the Tanzania University Sports Association (TUSA), can take part in sports and game competitions amongst universities.

Other organizing bodies such as the East, Central, and Southern Africa Universities Sports Association (ECSAUSA), and the Federation of African University organize regional competitions for students to travel and compete across universities in other countries.

Campus life can be exciting when on-campus life can be exciting when one is living on campus. This is helpful for unlimited access to on-campus services such as the library and sporting facilities. Students are advised to check on their campus of interest if it offers accommodation options on campus.

The fees are usually cheaper and first preference is given to foreign students. For cheaper affordable meals, some universities offer cafeteria services at subsidized rates for the student population.

For students staying off-campus, some universities provide free transportation to and from the university as well. This is one way to save on priced meals, takeaways and private transport.

Tanzania is a religiously diverse community and encourages freedom of worship based on personal beliefs, and this is apparent in Universities.

Most campus communities boast of a variety of religious groups including Christians, Muslims. Places of worship can be found on campus for the convenience of the students.
Medical and Health services are usually readily available on campus for registered students.

Some of these facilities have clinics, hospitals, and dispensaries on campus. It is imperative to find out from your university f you need medical aid cover from your country or the university covers medical issues for students.

Studies are usually in semesters that are twice a year, covering lessons, tutorials, and exams. Lectures amount an average of 30 hours a week depending on the program in which the student is in. It is important to attend lectures and balance your academic life with your social life.
