Swaziland obtained its independence on the 6th of September 1968 from the British. Swaziland is about 17 364 km2 in size and is one of the continent's smallest countries. It is a land of vast natural resources like asbestos, coal, clay, cassiterite, forests, gold, diamond, quarry stone, and talc. The official currency of Swaziland is the Lilangeni (SZL).
The Gross domestic product (GDP) of Swaziland is US$4.711 billion, and GDP per capita is US$4,145.97 as of 2018. Swaziland is a land ripe for agriculture with a variety of agricultural activities both for subsistence and commercial purposes. Products include sugarcane, cotton, maize, rice, citrus, pineapples, sorghum, peanuts, and cattle.

The economy of Eswatini is much diversified with a wide range of economic activities. The Gross domestic product (GDP) of Swaziland is US$4.711 billion and GDP per capita is US$4,145.97 as of2018. Agriculture, forestry, and mining account for about 13% of GDP whereas manufacturing contributes 37 % and services make up 50 % of GDP.
Swaziland's main trade partner is South Africa which takes up 60% of its exports and supplies 90% of Swaziland's imports. Government revenue is mainly from customs duties from the Southern African Customs Union which accounts for 49% of revenue and the income tax accounts for 27%.
Manufacturing has grown little in the past few years. Sugar and soft drink concentrate are the largest foreign currency earners. Mining has declined in recent years. Most diamonds, coal, gold, and quarry stone mines are small scale. Swaziland is a middle-income country with more than 70% of the population relying on subsistence farming.
Swaziland's industries consist of the mining industry (coal, asbestos, gold, diamond, quarry), textiles industry, wood pulp, sugar, soft drink concentrates. Swaziland also relies on the export of commodities such as diamonds, soft drink concentrates, wood pulp, cotton yarn, citrus, and canned fruit. Some of its export partners are South Africa, Europe, Mozambique, Botswana, and Namibia. The official US$ rate of the Lilangeni to the US dollar is US$1=SZL 16.46 and R1=SZL 1.0051
