Basic education in Sudan lasts eight years and is for children aged between 6 and 13 years. Primary education is also provided by the Government and private institutions. After 8 years of education, students will sit for the basic education examination, and students who attain the basic examination certificate may proceed to enroll at academic or technical secondary schools.

The Ministry of Education is in the process of implementing a new structure of basic, where basic education will last 9 years. In some private schools, elementary school concludes with grades 5 to 6 and then students move on to middle school.

Curriculum- The curriculum offered in the primary years' program focuses on reading and writing, arithmetic, and the development of problem-solving abilities. Pupils are taught subjects including Arabic, English and local language, social studies, arts mathematics, science, music, arts, and physical education to mention but a few. Basic education here concludes with the completion of the 8th grade, and certification is given at the end of elementary education.

Curriculum- the school offers The Primary Years Program which is a program designed to foster the development of the whole child. The school also offers the Sudanese National Curriculum for Arabic Language and Religious Studies.

assessment- Kindergarten 2 to Grade 8 applicants must sit for assessment tests in three subjects namely English Language, mathematics, and Arabic Language. Grade 9 applicants will sit for assessment in four subjects including English Language, Arabic Language, mathematics, and science. Grades 10 and 11 applicants must sit for assessment in six subjects namely English Language, Arabic Language, mathematics, biology, chemistry, and physics.
