South Africa Visa Requirements

Foreign students from other countries require a student visa in order to come and study in South Africa.

The visa must be obtained upon gaining acceptance into a recognized higher institution in the country. After obtaining a student visa, individuals are conceded official consent to dwell in South Africa.

The visa procedure takes about 1 or 2 months and the application is made to the South African embassy or consulate in the residence country of the applicant.

We strongly recommend that our students begin the process at the earliest opportunity after being accepted into a university program.

Student visas are substantial for the whole study period or program duration in South Africa.

  • Documents for visa considerations
  • International Passport or Travel ID (valid for at least 6 months after the session begins)
  • Acceptance Letter from the university
  • Confirmation of enrolment
  • Payment receipt of application fee
  • Proof of funds for the program duration
  • Police clearance certificate provided by the security agency from the applicants' residence country
  • Health certificate
  • Yellow fever vaccination testament for students from countries where the disease is prevalent
  • Marriage certificate for individuals with a spouse.
  • Relatives such as spouses and children can apply for a visa along with the applicant. The visa is only for 3 years and the holder cannot seek to study or seek employment while in the country.
