Social life in South Africa is exciting for tourists thanks to the gorgeous natural scenery and the expansive wildlife, the country is one of the most visited countries in the continent and is favored by millions of tourists from all over the world.

As a student, you will not be lost for activities in South Africa, as there are many social events and gatherings that happen all year long bringing out students from all over the country.

The social life varies from city to city, with each city bringing its own unique flair and experience, but the general consensus is that there are countless fun activities that suit whatever interests you may have.

Start your night out with wine and dinner with friends which can cost somewhere between R300 and 450 for dinner at any of the majestic restaurants in the city center.

In Capetown, there is a Gin Bar which comes highly recommended for a wide variety of tasty gin drinks and cocktails. In Jo’burg, there is Hook Bar, where many students frequent for its modern ambiance and an eclectic outlook.

As a student take advantage of the nightlife in your city and go on a night stroll across the beautiful streets, fall in love with the local entertainment and food that is present at every corner.

During the week, there is sure to find small groups of people clustered together at the waterfronts for major beach cities like Cape Town, Sandton and Bloemfontein. This is a unique late-night culture of South Africans that depicts them as a vibrant music-loving country.

South African music is loved around the world and as such music concerts, performances, awards, shows, theatre, and headline acts are very commonplace in the country. A long list of big-name local and international DJs, artists, performers, actors, all have shows at different times in a year.

Head on to Long Street in Cape Town for a phenomenon called ‘First Thursdays’ which is a free public event where many of the establishments, art galleries, cultural centers around the city’s central area stay open past 9 pm on the first Thursday of the month. This allows everyone the chance to discover the city with all its intricacies and enjoy the cultural richness the city offers.

Drinks are not expensive and a night out will not break your bank, if you’re legal and above the drinking age you can spend just somewhere between R120 to R150 on beer, wine and other cocktails on a typical night out. South Africa’s nightlife has a lot to offer, during the week it might be a bit relaxed but during the weekend the streets are very busy.
