Somalia Visa Requirements for international students

Getting visa to travel to Somalia

You may need an entry visa to stay in Somalia for a period of maximum 90 days. Persons wishing to enter Somalia for a temporary visit, require entry Visa, for instance:

  • on business or to take part in a conference
  • to visit relatives and friends
  • as a tourist

For students different rules apply if you wish to stay longer than 90 days here and in this case you may require an authorization for longer stay or student visa. Application should be submitted to the Embassy of Somalia or to the Consulate-General of Somalia. In countries where there is no Somalia diplomatic mission, please contact the nearest Somali mission in the same region. Decisions whether to grant entry visa or not generally may take up to a month. In some cases applications are taken to the Somali Immigration and Naturalization Department for a decision.

Entry Visa requirements

  • Completed Visa application Form – Incomplete forms may cause delays in issuance of applicant’s visa
  • A passport that is valid within 6 months
  • Two (2) recent passport size photos
  • Copy of Flight Reservation
  • Non-Refundable fee of about 50USD is made payable to the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Somalia.

Do I need a visa for Somalia?

Yes. A visa is required for travel to Somalia. However, visas for Somalia are not currently being issued in the US, but they can be obtained at the port of entry. All travelers to Somalia must have a passport, and it is advisable that the passport have 6 months of validity after the planned departure date from Somalia as well as at least one blank page for the entry stamp. Please be advised that many ports of entry are under the control of local authorities, and they reserve the right to require additional documents of travelers attempting to enter the country.

Can I obtain my Visa for Somalia on arrival?

Yes. Visas for Somalia are not currently being issued in the US, but they can be obtained upon entry in Somalia or at Somali embassies overseas in certain African nations. Be advised, however, that the central government and the embassies that represent it do not have control over the full Somali territory.   • It must be the candidate's demonstrable intention to return to their own country at the end of their period of study.
