Tuition in Slovenia

Depending on the country you come from, you might be able to study in Slovenia for free. International students from countries in the EU or from some other countries that have a bilateral agreement with Slovenia can study for free in Slovenian public universities at no cost whatsoever.

Other foreign students from other nationalities will find that although they are expected to pay tuition fees, the cost of education in Slovenia is significantly lower and several scholarship schemes are made available for them.

Foreign students pay somewhere between $2,000 to $9,000 per academic year depending on their program of choice.

Scholarships in Slovenia

Scholarships in Slovenia for international students include (but not limited to the following);

Scholarships and Grants by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport;

Bilateral Scholarships for Indian Students: The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports offers 2-year scholarships to students from India towards their studies/research at any Slovenian university. The scholarship is for short-term study periods and rewards about €300 in bursary every month. Also, the scholarship provides free accommodation and discount on food for the duration of their studies in Slovenia.

EU Grants for Disadvantaged Students: Awarded to students in the University of Ljubljana, this grant scheme is provided by the governing body for Development and European Cohesion. Students from less privileged backgrounds can apply for this scholarship for their education in Slovenia. The grant covers academic costs, accommodation costs, and travel expenses for the duration of their programs in Slovenia.

Slovenian Human Resources Development and Scholarship Fund

This body provides a very impressive amount of scholarships and grants for foreign students in Slovenia. This body also regulates and distributes information about other private scholarships available in the country. Presently there are over 30 grants and scholarships supported by the Slovenian Human Resources Development Fund at different levels of higher education in Slovenian universities;

  • Ad Futura Scholarships for Education
  • Scholarships for citizens of countries like Palestine, Ghana, Ukraine, Egypt, Tunisia, etc
  • Scholarships for citizens of countries in the Western Balkans region
  • ZOIS Scholarships
  • Corporate Grants

EU Mobility Training and Research Programs; CMEPIUS, ERDF, and ESF Cohesion Funds directed towards strengthening Slovenia’s Bilateral agreements with several countries by providing scholarships and research grants of mobility to short-term students from different countries in the EU and on the continent.
