Universities in Rwanda for international students

University of Rwanda is a co educational public university located in Rwanda. The university is the cornerstone of tertiary education in the country and as such it is the highest ranked university and any potential students will be lucky to be enrolled here.

The Adventist University of Central Africa also called in French:Universite Adventiste d'Afrique Central is a Seventh-day Adventist institution of higher learning near two campuses in Kigali, Rwanda. It is a part of the Seventh-day Adventist education system, the world's second largest Christian school system. The Adventist University of Central Africa (AUCA) was founded in 1978. The official opening took place on 15 October 1984 and the university had its definitive operating license via the law n0 0056/05 of 3rd February 1988, granting AUCA the legal personality as a nonprofit making association. At its inception, the University was located at Mudende, former Mutura Commune, Gisenyi Prefecture. AUCA is the place where life skills, knowledge and Christian values are nurtured to mold students into citizens fit for God for and for the country.

Kigali Independent University (French: Université Libre de Kigali, ULK), in Rwanda, is a private Institution of Higher Learning founded on 15 March 1996 and governed by the Law No. 27/2013 of 24/5/2013 governing the organization and functioning of Higher Education in Rwanda, the Law No. 13/2009 regulating Labor in Rwanda, the Presidential Order No. 51/01 of 13/7/2010 establishing quality standards in higher learning institutions.

University of Kigali is one of the leading private higher institutions of learning in Rwanda. It is a fully Accredited Chartered University by the Government of the Republic of Rwanda. It started its operations in October, 2013 upon receiving a definitive license to operate as a private University. The University has an international office as well as International students from Nigeria, Gabon, Ivory Coast, Ethiopia, Sierra Leone, Malawi, China, Turkey, Burundi, Uganda, Kenya, Democratic Republic of Congo, India, Thad, an indication of its drive towards internationalization and excellence. UoK has several international exchange programmes with Universities in Kenya and AIESEC as well as the Erasmus and Erasmus+ especially exchange of programmes with German Students through the support of the European Union. The University believes in diversity in the creation and dissemination of critical knowledge, embedded in the richness and potential of the region as envisaged by its founders.

The University of Lay Adventists of Kigali is a non-profit private higher-education institution located in the urban setting of the metropolis of Kigali. It is a large coeducational Rwandan higher education institution formally affiliated with the Christian-Adventist religion. University of Lay Adventists of Kigali (UNILAK) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees in several areas of study. UNILAK also provides several academic and non-academic facilities and services to students including a library, sports facilities, financial aids and/or scholarships, study abroad and exchange programs, as well as administrative services.

The Catholic Institute of Kabgayi was founded in 2002 by the Catholic Diocese of Kabgayi under the name Université Catholique de Kabgayi (UCK). Its mission is to advance and promote knowledge and development of skills in professionalism and innovativeness through quality education, research and community services for the transformation of society and sustainable development. The mission of ICK is underpinned by the following objectives: - to provide a scientific and technological higher education by taking into account the needs for the development of the population; - to provide a formal framework of continuous training. 

INES-Ruhengeri (French: The Institut D'enseignement Superieur De Ruhengeri) officially opened its doors on November, 17th 2003, under the name of “Université Internationale au Rwanda (UNIR)”; but the idea to its creation came in September, 2000 under the initiative of Ruhengeri Catholic Diocese. This idea was triggered by a triple motivation: (1) building signs of hope, (2) contributing to unity and reconciliation and (3) contributing to the country’s sustainable development. INES-Ruhengeri as a Haven of Research-based Quality Education for all and Leader in homegrown Education approach for Africa makes it stand out from other universities in Rwanda and across Africa.
