Students pay a reasonable amount of money at the start of every academic year in tuition for their academic programs, however, the cost varies depending on the different programs and levels of study.
Student fees are paid in the local currency, Russian Rubles (RUB), and all payments in foreign currencies must be converted to rubles.
Typically the tuition average for a program at HSE ranges from 210,000 to 370,000 rubles, the exact cost of the program would be communicated to our applicants respectively.
Similarly, the university also provides scholarships and fee waivers for international students at the undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate levels of study.
The university also awards prizes in outstanding non-academic activities for talented students, these prizes typically cover the students full or partial tuition for the duration of their programs.

The Higher School of Economics (HSE) was founded in 1992 and in its first year the university’s intake was a little above 150 students, today the school has swiftly grown to be the youngest and one of the most relevant institutions in Russia. Today more than 32,000 students study in their Moscow campus alone.
HSE is one of Russia’s most prominent research universities and they actively develop striving relationships with many leading international research and educational centers.
Up to 40% of HSE’s annual expenditure is invested in the university’s development in efforts that include creating long-term projects, developing new ways to attract and support academic talent, and enriching the academic environment of the university.
HSE attracts strong applicants from all around the world and is continuously gaining global recognition. In the past decade, the number of foreign students at HSE has grown nearly 20 times and currently around 3,400 international students are enrolled at HSE, and by 2025 this number is expected to double.
Although courses have been primarily taught in Russian, the university continues to expand the number of programs taught entirely in English, which now includes 39 master's programs, 8 bachelor’s programs, summer, visiting, and exchange programs. HSE has 857 double-degree programs in collaboration with top universities around the world.
In light of the school’s commitment to advancement, lectures from top professors and instructors at HSE are now delivered online and currently, 143 courses are available on the school’s online study platform. This number is also expected to increase in the coming years.
To enrich its academic environment, the university actively recruits international professors and researchers with insight and education from many top institutions around the world.
International scholars currently account for around 12% of all university faculty and will reach an estimated 17% by 2024. HSE has created 32 international laboratories under the supervision of leading academic scholars, these laboratories contribute to the development of the university’s academic environment.

Present on the university campus is 20 dormitories that serve both local and international students. HSE student dormitories are a great place to meet and connect with students from different parts of the world and the dorms come in different types and at different prices between 1,000 – 1,500 RUB per month inclusive of utilities such as electricity, heating, internet.
The dormitories have laundry rooms, study rooms, and kitchens for students who wish to prepare their own meals. The dormitories available at HSE are only a walking distance from the main campus area and are extremely comfortable for students.
For the individuals who opt to stay in private accommodation around the city, there are plenty of options for them to choose from, students cant rent private out-of-school apartments and flats that suit their individual needs, taste and budget.
The cost of renting an off-campus apartment varies from the location and the market value to the distance to the city center and many other factors.
Typically, the price for renting a one-bedroom apartment is about 25,000 RUB and the price for renting one room in a flat, called home-sharing, is about 20,000 to 25,000 RUB depending on how luxurious the apartment is and the facilities they come with.
Renting off-campus accommodation usually comes separate from the utilities and the price for electricity, water, heating, and others comes at a per-usage basis.
The University provides sports and exercise facilities in many of the dormitories on campus. These sports halls are run by professional coaches and instructors providing a healthy community of individuals who would train talented athletes or students who wish to improve their skills or learn new skills.
To be a part of the sports centers on campus, students must present a valid health report that states that they are fit to engage in athletic activities. There is a gymnasium for daily exercises in each of the dormitories for individuals who wish to keep fit or stay sit.
At the university cafeteria present on campus, a variety of meal options are available for students at Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner hours and they cost around 150-200 RUB per person.
The university cafeteria offers buffet-style meals at peak periods of the day, students who stay on campus and those who do not, purchase their meals from the cafeteria and there are good reviews to that effect.
Similarly, outside the university environment, there are several restaurants and fast-food outlets that serve delicious meals at any time of the day.
Typically a student can spend around 800 to 1200 RUB eat a good dinner at a normal restaurant, also fast-food chains such as McDonalds and KFC offer very many good inexpensive options for from between 200 to 300 RUB.
Individuals who love to shop and prepare for their own meals can do so with only 2,000 RUB regardless of their dietary concerns or eating habits.
Transportation in Russia is very seamless and effective, students find that they are able to move around fairly easily in their local environment and even across the country.
Students in Russia enjoy very highly subsidized student discounts on transport services such as buses, trains, trams, and metros.
There are student cards that have low prices of 700 RUB for one month, compared to the 2,700 RUB they would have to pay without the card. A taxi trip around town cost about 300 to 1,00 RUB contingent of the distance covered.
