When it comes to shopping in the Netherlands, some useful tips and pointers for students who plan to study in the country are; The Netherlands is not very credit card friendly and most stores only accept a dutch pin (debit card from a dutch bank) and cash.

Therefore new travelers are advised to hold enough cash for their initial shopping.

Two very useful Dutch words to learn is ‘Korting’ which means discount and ‘Goedkoop’ which means cheap.

In the Netherlands, prices are at two extremes. Items are either super cheap and economically or high-end and pricey.

Weekly shopping magazines or mailers have are delivered door to door on Sundays. They contain adverts for products on sale and which stores are offering them.
